another very cool observation, apt for TDOV: it has been so cool to watch my cis friends' ideas of gender expand via being confronted by esoteric & poetic genders in a picklist. they've all been so game for it and asked no questions. really cool little trick i'm playing on them

also really cool to learn about my friends that i met outside of college and get to learn more about what they were like in college via how they make their characters. it’s a fun time capsule in a way that i didn’t anticipate when i wrote it
one of my dear friends who played yesterday started talking to me about how cool it is to be able to learn more about each other even though it’s cloaked behind this character and i went “YES!!! YOU GET IT!!!!!!”
it was also very emotional and affirming to have these groups of people want to try something i love because they wanted to play my game so badly, almost entirely out of love for me. very very sweet & i am so lucky to be so loved <3
but truly the coolest thing about it was watching them start to Get It. watching them gain confidence in their choices as they asked each other the relationship questions & realized that they could have silly answers but also use this as a tool to be vulnerable with each other. it was so neat
both groups were also largely fellow creatives, specifically theatre artists, and it was really cool to introduce them to a system that’s so loose rules-wise. (i do this by describing it as “more of a collaborative storytelling experience”)
this weekend i got to help two separate groups of friends make characters, session 0 style, in “begin again”. both groups were almost entirely comprised of people who had never played a TTRPG, and it was so so cool to watch their minds open up as they started to understand the possibilities of games
