Authoritarians thrive on your silence — be loud — for America.
The cover of The Lancet with this quote from our commentary: "If we in academic medicine give in to the campaigns against diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, the consequences will include resegregation and fewer opportunities for marginalised groups."
Holy smokes! Our article is on the cover of The Lancet!!!!!!!!!! Nbd đź’…
He walked back prior statements on climate change, DEI, and anti racism
And his words on sex and gender were far from scientifically accurate
Must be really sad to have no principles whatsoever and be out of a job.
Great new commentary in @bridgemi.com from Dr. Brad Uren, a @umich.edu emergency med doc and vice chair of the board at the Michigan State Medical Society: www.bridgemi.com/guest-commen...
A reminder that every time you have produced a pie chart was, in fact, an opportunity to produce anything other than a pie chart
My latest piece, written for the Kettering Foundation.
I urge organizations, nonprofits, and companies to end the cycle of over compliance with Trump threats, and show how doing so ushers in fascism.
Some lessons from what we have seen in the trans community.

Serious point: This might be the most interventionist American government in my lifetime. The price of just about every good reflects the good thinking of the Commissars in Washington DC implementing their 5-year plan for National Greatness, rather than market forces.
Digging into the reinstated NIH grants. This story is an evolving doozy.
The reinstated grant is an R21 from Seattle Children's Hospital
I was very confused when I read the title:
"An intervention to promote healthy relationships among transgender and gender expansive youth"

One of my Radical Leftist opinions is the government shouldn't be able to deprive anyone of life, liberty, or property without due process of law
This is scientific censorship.
I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.
18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.
We made this website to tell our story:
18f.org
CDC will no longer collect trans health data following the “gender ideology” EO. With already limited data on trans health, this move attempts to erase trans people even more. It’s a reminder why community-led data collection is crucial, so the availability of this data is not left to govt's whim.
ICPSR at University of Michigan has been one of the longest-running secure data archives in the world and is stepping up to the challenges being presented in the current U.S. environment to keep government data as a resource for researchers and policymakers. isr.umich.edu/giving/suppo...
so much of yesterday’s future was built with the VA, NIH, and other federal funded research and protections the current admin is destroying because they don’t care if they make our future worse
I miss spending my time thinking about science 🧪 🩺. There are some incredibly cool projects going on. I want to spend my time worrying about threats to the rigor and validity of our analytic plans
Not threats to the science and democracy I want my kids to live in. Not threats to the rule of law
This isn’t how professional scientists work or write.
It’s how uneducated petty ideologues write.
Lots of inflammatory rhetoric, no actual science or data.
Fun activity!
if funding does resume, remember it is only under the Temporary Restraining Order
That is a huge win, but not a permanent win. Still essential that we build congressional support for never doing this again
U of Michigan's medical center is one of the only locations in the state where children can get hearing aids. Why? Because private insurers don't reimburse & Medicaid's reimbursement rate is too low for most hearing aid clinics.
Why can UM afford it? Because it gets indirect costs from NIH grants.
image capturing some of the text of the Michigan state civil rights law
Michigan civil rights law guarantees "full and equal utilization of public accommodations, public service, and educational facilities without discrimination" on the basis of gender identity (and more). Our law is in effect and applies to our K-12 schools, universities, and our hospitals (and more).
Major breaking trans news: The States of Washington, Minnesota, and Oregon have sued the Trump administration to block it from enforcing a national gender affirming care ban for those under 19 years of age.
This is the second major lawsuit over Trump's trans ban EO.
Docs to come.
After a pretty big hiatus on apps like this…Wow I missed you
