labour gambling lobbyists shut up challenge (900,000,000 to 1 odds)
but yeah "the working class loves being exploited by bookmakers" from a labour politician is bleak
this has reminded me I have a position which seems niche among non vegans which is that messing with animals for amusement or profit is barbaric and I'd happily see horse racing and sport fishing banned
reminder that until the end of april I'm offering 50% off "building git" using voucher code BGAPR2026 shop.jcoglan.com/building-git/
dusting off my skates and grinding the bumper
substantial amount of size saved by not using the npm `buffer` module (27 kb) and writing our own with just the parts we actually use
now we have a working browser build, I can measure the bundled size, and it's a very respectable 40 kb
doing this and then leaving a note taped to the windshield like "idk buy a tape measure"
if your car parked on your driveway is overhanging the pavement I should legally be allowed to remove the overhanging portion by any means necessary
programmers used to love terrible analogies of their craft to other fields and now that genAI is actually having an analogous effect in software production to its effect on the arts nobody can actually see it. odd
spotify bought and then shut down echonest in order to not be able to analyse music
both these stores support writing compare-and-swap workflows on top of them so all escodb's conflict resolution and i/o optimisation just works. these adapters are a tiny amount of code and very easy to make more of them
picking up on the escodb browser support work I started around xmas and after a little tweaking it is running in all browsers, and has storage backends for indexeddb github.com/escodb/core/... and webstorage github.com/escodb/core/...
new sunset visitor game ๐
uuuughghghh
or do you *have* to use msoffice to work with this
I can probably upload this to gdrive and re-export as XLSX when I'm done...? I don't have microsoft software locally
I actually really don't get the appeal of custom software for this. I constantly want to run little ad-hoc calculations on my ledger that I couldn't do if it was locked in an opaque web service. freeagent in particular makes actually seeing your transaction log a real pain
my accounts are already a google sheet, I like spreadsheets, they're nice, they're exactly what you need for this task
this doesn't seem to be on HMRC's approved software list
I'm a sole trader yeah
ah I guess I could automate the conversion of one CSV into another. just checking: does thing handle the new MTD stuff?
ah ok so I still have the problem of having to do all my record keeping twice and making sure the two representations agree with each other?
gotta say, immediately finding a handful of basic accuracy problems in the accounting software most frequently recommended to me by tech contractors is not encouraging. your big fancy product does a worse job than my spreadsheet plus a couple of tiny ruby scripts
sorry if this is a dumb question but how does it make sense of the information in said spreadsheet
oh also the dates on the transactions are wrong so they're double-counting sales from last year. nice "guessing"
what is the point of all this extra busywork. if govt wanted to do something useful they could increase how much tax spoiled bastards like me pay instead of creating pointless work that creates nothing of value
