you just aren't playing the game right, and the experience will suffer as a result.

Its obviously not the most nuanced bit of advice but it is something new players might need to hear, imo.

ofc, most rpg discourse online seems to be people who know nothing informing people who know even less 🤷‍♀️

I *think* this might be a corruption of a different piece of advice, which is that a single Move could cover the same amount of fiction that multiple skill checks/the entire combat game in a more D&D-like system. IE if you're playing blades in the dark and rolling Skirmish for each individual attack

TTRPG discourse is like: "Sell me on Apocalypse World. I hate it. Partly because the people I play with don't actually play according to the rules and I think that's the game's fault. Also, I've made up a thing about it I don't like. Also, my friends don't like acts of collaborative creativity."

Anti-social behavior and anti-social systems are always shaking hands. It may not be possible to diagnose which came first, but as a designer you can directly change anti-social systems, much harder to change players.

Total dismantlement of the USA as a political entity would be a just and *minimal* demand to redress the harms that have *already* been done. You understand that, right?

FRIEND: got any new lyrics?
EVEN WACKER BEASTIE BOYS IN MY MIND (ELVES WHO RAP ABOUT HEALING POTIONS): so keep your combat SURGE and keep your CLEAVE / when it's time to BATTLE i'd rather LEAVE / while you scramble in DUNGEONS for meager LOOT / i'mma make your girl SCREAM like mandrake ROOT

trying to warn someone that maybe the first game you write shouldnt be something that can range from tactical combat to courtroom drama to high school romance. especially if the only games you've played prior are D&D 5e and Fate

Hunting bandits is cop shit and it's not an accident that every single adventureslop game pits them against you as the intro enemy

Disclaimer; their prices are still ridiculously inflated. But, iirc the majority of the production cost is the up front price of the mould. So stuff they only expect to sell you one of, ie hero units, gets a higher cost per model while stuff you might buy multiples of gets a lower cost per model.

I'm always baffled by these posts I see that go 'me and my 10 closest friends need a TTRPG that we can all play together!'

any games in particular you're thinking about here?

The reason why the Brindlewood Bay system works the way it does is that it is 100% open about what it is and how it works.

Any GM tactic that relies on deceiving the players* is doomed to fail and immensely disrespectful. The game is collaborative, after all.

*not their characters, to be clear

Something I really enjoy about TLR is that you can use aspects of your gear as a clue to answer a question. IE getting a bit of lore from the description of your sword.

Fantasy is getting way too mormon coded all of a sudden, sanderson's window plan prose, DNDs pathetic art style and cultural practices, everything going on with popular romantasy. we need to make it fucked up, illogical, and transexual again. At least catholicism was theatrical; tolkien and wolfe.

I am always fighting with woke elfgamers about DnD's stat system being a eugenic wishcast and I am always being hit with new "they just said it out loud"

I skimmed this because I did want to avoid major spoilers and still haven’t completed Disco Elysium, but it’s very funny to me that they kept the death saving throw system even though everything interesting about it relies on a party so it’s literally just a coin flip with extra steps.

The QQ effect is so real, man. Do you know how surreal (and wonderful) it is to see people on Facebook of all places talking about how excited they are by Paint the Scene, my ten-year-old story game technique?
