Another rabbit hole to get lost down. These images are of a rust fungus (Puccinia urticata) which requires two different host plants (sedges and nettles) to complete its complex lifecycle. Below are the closed and open cups which release the spores that blow in the wind to reinfect sedges.

No other plant in the Netherlands attracts as many bee species: 107. In early spring, when nothing else is blooming, it is simply there. Meadow bird chicks that have just hatched depend on the insects that are drawn to dandelions. No dandelion, no insect, no chick.
