No, the ideal wasn't toleration it was liberation - as it still is, and the notion that this equates to thought control of the poor innocent heterosexuals who want to harbour their prejudices in peace is just homophobic. Kathleen needs therapy tbh

Over time, though, the big idea became "cultural change", meaning bringing about a widespread morality shift; and suddenly, everybody did have to like it.
