So basically it's becoming less of a story of forcing out fossil exports and more of a story of how to get the most of out of the industry on its way down: how to force them to pay their way, clean up, pay for impacts of fuel use etc
If Australia wants to see Norway-style tax benefits? Last chance.
The real moment of clarity came a couple of days in when we were driving past yet another service station we had no reason to stop at, when my partner turned to me and said: "You know, I didn't realise until now, but it really is insane we put petrol in cars. Not just our car, but all cars."

The ABC has a full time reporter based in China but I’ve yet to see them report on how electric trucks and charging stations are the norm in China. I’m cycling in rural Yunnan and seeing them even in the most remote areas.
. @richarddenniss.bsky.social opens by pointing out that the Japanese govt actually raises more revenue from Australian gas than does the Australian govt!

"...new carbon intensive projects, such as coal mines and oil and gas fields, could be restricted by government regulations influenced by the [International Court of Justice's advisory opinion] while projects that have been approved could be challenged through the courts"

Extremely normal and fine for a company to put this in a public statement
An “incomprehensible” disaster is unfolding at wetlands in New South Wales after the state water agency abruptly stopped environmental flows in the state’s north-west, leading to the deaths of turtles, waterbirds, frogs and sheep.
They had a ddos attack apparently some hours of glitches

"It does not seek to follow word by word the contemporary European social policies based on political correctness, but tries to find its own way. We can label it Christian democracy, illiberal democracy or conservative democracy. "But for sure, it is questioning the ruling mainstream progressive interpretation of democracy." Europe, surely, has room for diversity. Greg Sheridan visited Hungary as a guest of the MCC Hungarian think tank. What does “guest of” entail?
Good. Now let's see if the Ombo has sharp enough teeth to get Albanese to do the right thing for frail older people who have paid taxes all their lives & deserve help. (Unlike the big corporates that don't pay tax.)

Chart showing gas exports and PRRT: 2014-15: Exports $16.9bn PRRT $1.9bn 2024-25: Exports $64.6bn PRRT $1.4bn
Just in case you're wondering why the gas industry hates the idea of a 25% gas export tax and wants to keep the PRRT
The @albomp.bsky.social govt APPROVES YET ANOTHER Gas extension involving up to ~1700 new gas wells to 2081 for climate criminals Asia Pacific LNG (check👇)
That's 33 Coal & Gas new/extension projects APPROVED
(who needs Great Barrier Reef or a liveable climate when you've got export gas cargoes)
What a crazy rant. If a friend wrote something like that we might take them to seek some help.
Boston Globe mock front page from April 9, 2016. Date says April 9, 2017, with giant headline “DEPORTATIONS TO BEGIN” and “Markets sink as trade war looms.”
Ten years ago today, in April 2016, the Boston Globe printed a satirical front page imagining a future Trump administration. The page was called "alarmist," "hyperbolic," "dystopian." But we’ve put up with so much since then it now looks like . . . a slow Thursday?
And the lame references to “strikes on Lebanon” rather than “MASSIVE bombing of central Beirut”
Was rather hoping that headline might read;
“Ceasefire brings hope of peace & justice across Middle East”
But no, our hopes just confined to petrol prices…
Wanna know WHY a Seven journalist is pretending that renewables are pushing up energy prices? Oh that’s right… Seven Group own fossil fuel assets and want to exploit more of them.
I am astounded that this is still all over the front cover of NYT. The unhinged swearing threats of their President are relegated to a sane-washed interpretation, again, albeit “could be war crimes”.
Hear hear!
Watching just about anything on streaming with our 12yo son we get bombarded with gambling ads.
