Now No 10 claims that Keir Starmer found out about Peter Mandelson’s failed vetting earlier this week.

If this is true, the PM should have told Parliament at the earliest opportunity, not waited for the media to force the truth out. His failure to do that is surely a breach of the ministerial code.

Starmer could have been a lot more transparent about his decision making on Mandelson’s appointment.
