PC GAMER FRIENDS! The company I work for is having an open beta this weekend for our social deduction party game Masters of Mayhem. It would be a real help if we can get as many folks in as possible to try it out.
I'll be playing starting mid-afternoon both days!

REMINDER: Anyone who thinks non-citizens shouldn't have guaranteed rights also thinks that citizens shouldn't have those rights, but hasn't figured out how to pull it off yet.
I’m hoping both
I've never liked Gavin Newsom, and I like him less now, but I continue to be genuinely surprised by how many people erroneously add an "e" at the end of his last name when discussing him.
I'm looking for recommendations on Canadian whiskies that an enthusiast (read: snob) would enjoy sipping. Anyone have any insight to offer there? 🥃
I've come to believe that the most important concept in media literacy is the ability to tell if someone is communicating with you in good or bad faith. This doesn't always come naturally to people, but I think it can be practiced and trained. How do you think we can strengthen this skill at scale?
I don't think revisiting the constitution is going to be effective here. The problem at the moment isn't the quality of the rules, it's that a growing number of people don't understand why powerful people not needing to follow rules is a bad idea. That's a cultural problem, not a legal one.
How are y'all envisioning yourselves engaging here? What do you want to share? What do you want to see from folks you follow and/or interact with? Are you hopeful about the prospects here or is it a waystation until a non-shitty platform comes along that better meets your actual needs?
I like the idea of adding my voice to certain cultural conversations, but only if I can do so in a way that honors nuance, context, and good-faith dialogue. However well-intentioned, this kind of platform isn't really built for that.
I have a lot of thoughts on current events, and I think some of them are very salient, but I don't want to abet the doomscroll. I have opinions about various sensory/intellectual pleasures, food, drink, TV, music, video games, but I don't think those warrant enough attention to blast to the world.
Reflecting on trying to decide how I want to engage with this platform. The hard character limit is not conducive to my writing style, and breaking up into multi-post threads is annoying.

What is a nonfiction book that has contributed significantly to how you see and understand the world? Why/how?
For the first time in my life, I'm making enough money to see the effects of a tax policy change (Trump cuts expiring) on my paycheck in a serious way. It stung for a moment, but I'm not mad about it. It did drive home the fact that only higher earners really felt those cuts, and I'm mad about that.
Had an excellent holiday into birthday stretch. I don't know what ups and downs the year holds, but it's good to know I'm entering into it surrounded by good people. 💝
I watched #alienromulus last night, and while I enjoyed it, I did not feel it lived up to the hype. It easily cleared an incredibly low bar, and while it may be the best Alien movie after the first two, IMO there's still a lot of distance in terms of storytelling quality between those and this.
