'I don't think he likes food' is such a devastating, caustic burn coming from someone who works with food. It's worse than 'He's dead to me,' because it's like he was never alive to you to begin with.

Could I be added? I work on AI in maritime logistics if that fits.
new from Charmaine Chua:
Yes!!
The site also has the appearance of allowing you to perform a boolean search. But it's an illusion. And the extra terms are included to compensate for errors in the automated character recognition. So to make up for a few hundred typos, they include 10k+ extra results that introduce their own errors
Computer: You're search for a phrase that includes the exact, time-sensitive term 'internet'?
How about including 'internat.' short for international?
How about 'inf.,' 'info,' and 'information'?
Or 'Informat' the name of a random ship 400 years ago?
You have 16000 results. This is me helping.
Having spent some time now looking at archival news sources, I can say that natural language search can go straight to hell.
Happy birthday to the late great Ben Fletcher! Haven’t heard of him? If you know of Fred Hampton, you should! Both were revolutionary Black socialists persecuted by US gov’t for fighting for a multiracial socialist world—Hampton via the Panthers and Fletcher by organizing workers in the IWW
I'm so sick of tiptoeing around the deluded, violent fantasies of these assholes. They derive much of their power from how much we buy into their claims. They're not actually that powerful, and most of them aren't even that smart. If we call them out loudly and often, it will weaken their grip.

Glad to see this response from the Party for the Animals
Update: 18 months since @ubcmedicine.bsky.social SPPH let me go for speaking out about Israel's genocide in Gaza. Faculty Asscoiation grievance filed 14 mon. ago. Process is painfully slow & no arbitration has been scheduled. As I've said before: I will not sign an NDA as a condition of settlement.
In case anyone wants an introduction for a general reader, Prof. Ervand Abrahamian's A History of Modern Iran is here as a free PDF: ia800109.us.archive.org/11/items/a-h...
Thinking of the Iranian teachers, colleagues and friends I've been lucky to have over the years. Thinking of all the people in Iran. Thinking about how the CIA and MI6 instigated the overthrow of Mosaddegh in 1953 after he nationalised the oil industry. And just: fuck all of this genocidal nonsence.

"En waarom is dat?
--Simpel, omdat je geen keus hebt, omdat je je ongevraagd en zonder aankondiging hier komt melden en omdat we erg hechten aan broederschap."
The satirical depiction of apes in the context of white supremacy is...yep. Paape was a political refugee and contemporary of Voltaire
"--Omdat je, als je een beroep doet op onze gastvrijheid en medemenselijkheid, je wel een dikke portemonnee nodig hebt om echt van die gastvrijheid en medemenselijkheid te genieten.
Huh, hoe kan een ongelukkige vluchteling –
--Twee keer zo veel betalen als iemand die ons land als toerist bezoekt."
From J.A. Schasz (Gerrit Paape), Journey through the Land of Apes. Dutch original:
"--Heb je wel geld bij je?
Dat was de eerste vraag die me in het vreemde land gesteld werd
En waarom wil je dat weten? – vroeg ik.
Sadly relatable, from 1788:
"Do you have any money with you?
That was the first question I was asked in this foreign land.
And why do you want to know that? – I asked.
Because, if you call upon our hospitality and humanity, you do need a fat wallet to truly enjoy that hospitality and humanity."
Apparently rich white people from the Randstad are the Real Refugees
Dutch newspapers get away with such blatant racism and Islamophobia. Here Amsterdammers, all of them white (but some are Jewish!) are fleeing in fear because people of color:
1. Exist, "dirtying" the city
2. Oppose getting genocided, "the real racism"
3. Have beliefs and holidays (Islam, oh my!)
A great labour of love and grief - Remembering Gaza Scholars, a memorial website featuring biographies of dozens of the academics murdered in the Israeli onslaught on Gaza: rememberinggazascholars.org
If they are properly confirming the information, then it would take the same amount of time as just doing the thing without AI, but the only way they can justify the use of AI is by it taking less time, which means not properly confirming the information... 😵💫
Another day, another violation of academic freedom in Texas. This time a university is firing a philosophy professor owing to complaints about an off-campus talk he gave on the Israeli-Palestine conflict...

Palestinian Filmmaker Annemarie Jacir spoke to me about her critically acclaimed new film, "Palestine 36" that looks at Palestine in 1936 when it was controlled by the British and the rise of Palestinian nationalism. This great film opens in NYC this weekend youtu.be/9o6z1wTVdR8?...
In an era where "protect the children" has become a right wing canard used to elect pedophiles to allow parents to abuse their children more and wipe queer people from the face of the earth, Ms. Rachel is an example of what fighting for children actually looks like
Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
