I feel like while viewing school as a game may have hindered some of my own learning, it definitely made me a better teacher...

Leading a team focused on writing a supplemental curriculum based on problem solving. Creating problems with multiple approaches & multiple justifiable solutions. Tasks that are mathematical rich but focus on reasoning over procedure.
My gamesmanship of school provides an interesting perspective
As a math teacher i value(d?)
* mathematical thought process over the answer
* accuracy over speed
* collaboration over individual achievement
* good music
Kahoot was not conducive to any of those.
Where was this article years ago when my students were complaining cause I was one of the few teachers who never used kahoots cause I thought they were shite.
I had my master's in Ed, but 95% of my classroom approach was based on common senses / "the smell test" and that always stunk.
He liked *me*
One year I'll learn to proofread.
Maybe at the same time I start believing that respect is given, not earned...
I'm probably never going to learn.
💯
My 2nd year teaching (23, affluent private school) I taught a super slacker dude. I (lied &) told him, his parents, his dean... that he had to pass the final to pass few tests & the final to pass the class. He liked him, I liked him, but nobody ever held him accountable (parents had $$$).
Quite the day in Denver sports.
Nuggets home game vs Minnesota.
Rockies home game vs the Dodgers.
Rapids home game vs Miami at Bronco stadium.
Jokic
Ohtani
Messi
All playing within 2 miles of each other.
Good news, according to the modeling, you're a lock for 1:48:49
Taking the 10yo to the Rapids vs Miami (MLS) soccer game in hopes of seeing Messi play.
His game was supposed to be this morning but was postponed to later, during the Rapids game, so it'll be a bummer if he misses his game and Messi doesn't play...
There's a solid math question in here...
How long will it take to complete a 20k?
Show me an unorganized drawer only containing practical items and we'll figure out a name... I'm not convinced such a thing exists.
(sneffleupagus.bsky.social this reminds me of the ridiculous pants +/- conversation of years ago...)
I would argue that if it's organized and practical (aka no dead batteries, no take-out menus from places you don't go, all the keys open known locks, a realistic collection of rubber bands...) then it would be a non-junk drawer... an asset alcove.
You organized the junk out of it, so now you have a drawer... I give it a month to reclaim its identity.
"a junk drawer can never be organized bc the purpose of said drawer is to house the stuff that doesn't have a place... and if everything in the drawer has a place, it's no longer its namesake"
Twalk amongst yourselves
It was 70 out yesterday

I think anytime they see something that hasn't been mass produced as a one-size-fits-none activity, they appreciate it. I wrote all my own materials for my classes, and while it was far from perfect (and a ton of work) students appreciated that it was designed with how they think in mind...
To play devil's advocate- i went to a BRU.
At the time they didnt offer minors, but my major (math) allowed me time to take plenty of electives & i took 3-4 class clusters in Music, Anthropology, Sociology, Geology...
I enjoyed being able to be a number when i wanted & make it smaller when i wanted
DIY hack of the day: take an angle grinder to cut off the L of an allen wrench and it becomes drill compatible.
I had a company do some work on my house last week.
Today i get a call
"Hi, i was calling to see how you plan on paying for our services. I can take your CC over the phone or you can send a check."
"Um, i never received an invoice"
"I just sent it a minute ago"
Um... really?
“you can’t block the straight, because I’m blocking it first!! So there!”
Pretty sure I overheard this argument /breakup in middle school...
Nothing to see here, just a wild Turkey going door to door...

I do the shopping (& cooking). I've seen these memes, but never witnessed it first hand, until today
I was at Costco. Walk into the dairy cooler and see a 70 year guy was getting frustrated with his phone/wife/connection while asking "white or brown?" (eggs) over & over
My dude, they're the same
Damnit. I need to learn to be less efficient.
Creating a large new product at work, which started as just me & my boss. We're now bringing on a bunch new contractors. I finished my responsibilities early... so now I get to train my new team lead & then take over as team lead for another group. Yay?
This is the play.
i had a colleague who lived on Telegraph Hill. He rented out his apartment for a ridiculous amount of money when SF hosted the All-Star game...
I used to teach at a school in the large rectangle to the north with 4 "lakes" but never really spent much time down there
I'm picking up something from FB tomorrow, they gave me the street address which exists in centennial, Greenwich village, Aurora & Littleton. I'm gonna need some more info...
I've always been intrigued by cities with strange boundaries... i just learned that this gem is in my own backyard!
