That’s like a next-level gearhead hobby… what is the scale break between “garden” and “farm?”

At one point my wife was like “he looks like he’s 12” and I said, “well, you are old enough to be his mom.” I then immediately got punched in the arm.

One of the domino players in the half time show looked like my 75 year old PhD advisor (who’s Borinqueño)… which was a little heartwarming

Statewide snowpack remains the worst on record, and it's not even close. It's barely half of where it should be.

Again...zero pleasure delivering this news. There are outs, but we're gonna need a railroad track of storms in late February-April to get us out of this.

If you’re not from Idaho or the West, do yourself a favor and forego reading the Atlantic’s puff piece on Ammon Bundy. There’s nothing to be learned (not surprised he doesn’t like ICE), but it does show the MSM’s continuing failure to understand and take seriously extremist movements in these parts

A friend had a very fancy temporary staff position with a Republican senator and said virtually the whole caucus would unalive him if they thought they could get away with it

I remember it like yesterday. I was a space-obsessed 1st grader at Earl Johnson in Golden. My teacher applied for the teacher in space program and was inconsolable. McCauliffe’s backup, from McCall ,did go to space later - and had a huge impact in my early career at Boise State. Spacetime is tiny

Welp. Colorado's snowpack is the worst on record, and there's barely any snow on the way for the mountains for the next 14 days.

Northern mountains get a bit on Thursday, but it's a drop in the bucket.

This pattern stinks. This winter stinks.

Unplayable and unwatchable for who, exactly? I’m guessing Broncos and Patriots fans loved it (outcome notwithstanding, from a Broncos’ fan perspective)

I went with “what is your current hyper fixation” and it was cool to see the diversity of responses. I got crocheting, deep dives on why there’s no snow (pertinent, lol), movie recs, book recs, upland bird hunting. I told them it would be cool to ask again at the end of the semester

~ 7% global forests is plantation (young)

Young (Y) vs Old forests (O):
How do water + carbon (C) processes belowground differ?

Y: less streamflow & deep gw %
O: higher DOC + DIC; deep roots
Y&O: can have contrasting DOC CQ; consistent DIC dilution

“Are you afraid now?”

This pastor likely knows well that in the Gospels, Jesus’ most intense fear in the Garden of Gethsamane is *not* what he would endure, but rather that he would run from it

The western US is in a snow drought, and storms have been making it worse A major atmospheric river brought record precipitation to the Pacific Northwest, yet the snow and water supply still suffered. It’s a growing problem.

A large December storm hit the mountains of the Pacific Northwest – and left snow conditions in the Yakima Basin worse off in its wake. How might this event be a harbinger of winters to come? I offer this perspective piece, published today in @theconversation.com #snow #drought #climatechange

I had to runoff out to the car in shorts and a t-shirt and only after getting back to the house did it dawn on me that it wasn’t cold. Also, just saw a skeet that it’s 70° in Denver today 🙃

This is a really important paper and such a privilege to be involved moving it forward. Sharon did a masterful job of synthesizing data from a diverse array of sites and drawing some super important conclusions for Critical Zone science. I’m confident the community will be interested in this paper
