Ooh- I have not preheated the pan before, will try this!

How do you keep them from sticking? I have that same pan and mine always stick to the bottom & sides, even greased heavily with Crisco.
In my neighborhood (at least 75% South Asian, tech professionals) many families identify with the old school elitist R description: wealthy and want lower taxes, educated and disdain anyone who isn’t similarly driven, religious, and LGBTQ makes them feel uncomfortable.
More cuts proposed to geoscience.
So disappointed in this dude. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to keep it in the pants. #believewomen
I went to a dentist in college whose hygienist talked to me at length (while I was stuck with my mouth open) about a geologist she dated once. Apparently he made an impact 😂
And you learn to accept it, you know it’s so pathetic
This is detrimental for geoscience, which already struggles to recruit students. Reduction in NSF funding has a trickle down impact that means students don’t get training needed to enter the workforce.
👏 AI 👏 is 👏 not 👏 a search engine!
One of the perks of being part of a professional association is the ability to participate in providing your knowledge to others and learning new things. I wish more of my colleagues invested in participating- takes time & a little effort but truly makes a difference in building your own community.
Maybe start by removing mandatory chromebooks from California schools? This is the gateway to “online kids” with app-based learning. Bring back paper & books!
In his confirmation hearings, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told U.S. senators that he would not cut funding for vaccine research or change the nation's official vaccine recommendations. He did both. n.pr/46QDn9p
I genuinely cannot believe the degree to which we are pissing away this generational breakthrough, even given the fuckmuppets who are involved www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...
As the resident geologist in my neighborhood, I get a bunch of texts each time the earth shakes. California (or Bay Area?) really needs to have high school level earth science as a college-prep class. Many neighbors have no idea whether to be scared of these little shakers or not.
Nothing broken, but a picture frame fell over and the chandelier swayed for a while. The dog is still not okay with all of the shaking. We’re about a mile east of the epicenters.
He’s a real guy who is a science teacher, not sure how as his degree is in English & law. California is so desperate for science teachers that we’ll hire complete conspiracy theorist nut jobs.
I have that in poster form!
In my area, the lack of school buses has had a trickle-down effect on field trips because hiring charter buses is prohibitively expensive ($50+/kid). So if a school has a field trip, they rely on parents to drive. Too many working parents = not enough drivers = reduced / no trips.
Perhaps they have shifted to website-based reporting and relaying info from the Bureau of Labor & Statistics?

@agi-updates.bsky.social what say you on the reduced frequency of this reporting?
This is a good article about the history of Parkinson’s research & the influence of genes & the environment on the disease.
If you teach biology this is a good article to share with your students to discuss not only research priorities but the need to understand our environment as well as genetics
I was privileged to take Plate Tectonics from Dr. Atwater at UCSB. At the time I didn’t realize how her down-to-earth teaching style and humble brilliance was uncommon for undergrads to experience. She broke barriers and opened doors and in turn supported the next generation.

California Geotour is an index of field trip information for people interested in visiting California's world-famous geologic features. This site contains geologic information, photographs, maps & directions for interesting geologic locations across the state. www.conservation.ca.gov/cgs/californ...
Busy night!
Out walking the dog (in San Ramon) and one of the quakes shook the raindrops off the trees. I’m glad we were out walking, my dog is not a fan of the shakies.
If you have the means, support your niche professional associations with membership & meeting attendance! This is the only way science will survive government funding cuts & reduction in attendance from those whose attendance depends on grant funding.
US-based professionals are also avoiding conferences because employers are refusing to reimburse due to cutbacks in spending. Trump/DOGE reductions in funding science & infrastructure are trickling down to professional associations who are struggling financially. Support your profession!
