At the meeting, we identified 6 pillars for open, people-centered technology:

1️⃣ Democracy and participation.

2️⃣ Decolonization and diversity.

3️⃣ Autonomy and tech appropriation.

4️⃣ Territoriality, collectivity, and community

5️⃣ Access and equity.

The Great Intelligence Deficit We have old ways, and humble expectations. Let that not sway us from the path that leads to abundant intelligence. What we suffer from is intelligence deficit, not excess intelligence. My position on the matter is that our civilization lacks sufficient intelligence, especially of the technical variety, and improving our intelligence many-fold is not only desirable but of utmost necessity.

The Need for an Open Research License (2002) This was an interesting inquiry. At least some of these concerns were met by Creative Commons licenses, but I feel that we still need new licenses!

Navigating Skepticism in a Polarised Age Information Overload: How to Savor the Nuance In an era dominated by rapid information flows and entrenched partisan narratives, the term "conspiracy theory" has become a blunt instrument. It is wielded to shut down inquiry, discredit legitimate skepticism, and protect powerful interests. What begins as reasonable investigation: leaks, news stories, or critical analysis, is often lumped together with the most outlandish claims, rendering nuanced discussion impossible.

I'll be writing some new papers on these, so I would welcome any criticism, for instance would you like to explain why Kurzweil was wrong about 2029? Any citations I should see? Thank you. 😇

To remind, my 2030 prediction was concerned with the energy efficiency of computation vastly improving the accuracy of Moravec's predictions. However, Kurzweil made a more intuitive prediction already by early 2000s. I hadn't taken Kurzweil's idea into account but he predicted 2029.

I had predicted the "singularity" by 2035. I think after that, Kurzweil also pre-poned his singularity, but the 2029/2030 prediction for human-level AI was first made many years ago. I wonder why you object to that specific prediction then.

He may be wrong about the timelines, but eventually these predictions aren't wrong. He probably got them from AGI researchers. He isn't exactly making it up.

@brainking.bsky.social I'd like to ask Philip if there are good billionaires, i.e., unexploitative, unextractive, and if he would reason wealth does not necessarily turn people bad, or how to avoid that.

I despise recommender algorithms for social media. I believe we should build communities of people who take care about how much and what quality they post. 21C version of virtue friendship, but I can also argue it on computational and communication efficiency grounds.

The below is re bots blocking.
