A meaningful chapter has come to an end, as I have concluded my posting at the Embassy of Estonia in Beijing. It has been a privilege to represent my country during a dynamic period in both our bilateral & EU-China relations. 🇪🇪🇪🇺🇨🇳
Here’s to the next stop in Brussels!#StandWithUkraine🇺🇦💪

Happy Restoration of Independence Day to my dear Estonia! 🇪🇪
34 years ago today, we reclaimed our freedom and independence from Soviet occupation.
Estonia’s freedom lives on thanks to our courage, unity and hope. And for the same values we #StandWithUkraine🇺🇦
🇪🇪 Estonia will expel the First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Tallinn. They have consistently undermined Estonia's constitutional order, fuelled societal division & contributed to crimes against the state, including multiple sanctions violations.

A stark reminder how over 1.6 million 🇺🇦 Ukrainian children are still under russian control in occupied territories or deported. #Estonia remains committed in our support to #BringKidsBack
Happy Victory in Europe Day!
Also, happy the Day When Two Estonian Schoolgirls Aili Jõgi and Ageeda Paavel Blew up a Russian Occupation Monument in 1946.
They were both deported to Gulag labor camps, but lived long enough to see Estonia regain independence, rebuild, join the EU&NATO and prosper.
Looks like russia is really into achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. #sarcasm
Visiting my old high school and university town Tartu in #Estonia 🇪🇪.
Support for #Ukraine 🇺🇦 is in the air.
🇪🇪 #Estonia stands with #Ukraine in their fight against illegal aggression from russia.
There is a clear victim and a clear aggressor in this war, and siding with the victim of aggression is simply the right thing to do. #StandwithUkraine
🇪🇪 Embassy in Beijing hosted a screening of “After The Rain” by Sarah McCarthy who joined us here in person!
A stark reminder that nearly 20 000 Ukrainian children are still being kept illegally in russia. And what is at stake when talking about making any concessions of Ukrainian land to russia…
Great speech by president Zelenskyy in about 1h20min in, great panel by some European leaders a bit afterwards.

Nordic-Baltic Leaders’ statement on Ukraine ⬇️
This is Ukraine.🇺🇦
A just and lasting peace can only be reached from a position of strength and when Ukraine has credible security guarantees.
No negotiations about Ukraine without Ukraine.
Ukraine’s right to choose alliances is non-negotiable. Its future is in NATO.
European nations must step up & be part of the discussion. This means ramping up military aid, sanctions. High time to use Russia’s frozen assets. This is what peace through strength really means. 2/2
We did it! 🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹 electricity system is now connected to continental Europe - where we belong.
This weekend, Estonia 🇪🇪 will disconnect from the electricity system of russia. We will synchronize our grids with the Continental European Synchronous Area.
An important step in decoupling from russia and ensuring our energy security.

Estonians were outnumbered and outgunned.
But the strength of 🇪🇪 Estonian resilience and ingenuity, combined with international support, took the Russian invaders by surprise as their war of aggression returned onto their own territory.
Soviet Russia was given no choice but to compromise.
Of course, the Soviet Union invaded us again in 1940, in collusion with Nazi Germany, and staged an illegal annexation - literally at gunpoint.
But what did we learn from our War of Independence? That real peace must deliver justice and security. And that requires strength.
Soviet Russia invaded Estonia in late 1918. After intense fighting & negotiating, this war of aggression ended with Russia agreeing in the Tartu Peace Treaty to fully respect Estonia's independence in perpetuity.
Today, Estonia 🇪🇪 celebrates the 105th anniversary of signing the Tartu Peace Treaty.
Signed 2 February 1920 between the Republic of Estonia and Soviet Russia, this treaty brought an end to our war of independence from Soviet Russia and cemented our sovereignty in international law.
How it started ➡️ how it’s going. Preparing to welcome the Year of the Snake in Beijing. 🐈🐍🎉
#EU sanctioned3️⃣members of RU’s military intelligence for a cyberattack against #Estonia.
Last year 🇪🇪 attributed the attack to the perpetrators, with international support, including from Allies & partners.

We all need to be realistic about Russia, which poses an existential threat to our security today, tomorrow and for as long as we underinvest in our defence.”

No threat currently to Estonia’s energy security. But these continued incidents demonstrate exactly that Russia’s shadow fleet is a threat to Europe’s security at large. 🇪🇪 remains vigilant.
The incident involving undersea cables in the Baltic Sea is the latest in a series of suspected attacks on critical infrastructure.
We commend the Finnish authorities for their swift action in boarding the suspected vessel.
