Ed researchers! @aeraedresearch.bsky.social asks that we take a 5 min survey on "how specific [IES] datasets, surveys, research, and evaluations are used and relied upon by members" by May 28th to respond to questions from the judge. I'm not including the link on purpose but please check your email!

With some of the “analysis” floating around these days, sometimes I wonder if the best use of my time is simply tattooing “SHOW ME THE COUNTERFACTUAL” on my forehead.

Pay for gym? Cholesterol normal. Cut my gym membership? Cholesterol up 20 points! Great spending to “not see any progress.”

College closures have been in the news lately, and especially in the greater Philly area. @dougwebberecon.bsky.social and @robertkelchen.com and I have been working on improving on existing methods for predicting closures — and financial distress more generally — in higher ed. Check out the paper!

Teaching Evaluations Are Broken. Can They Be Fixed? Superficial assessments hurt professors and students, but reform is hard.

Some colleges and universities are investing in more thoughtfully designed course evaluations, preparing faculty members to substantively critique their colleagues, and fostering discussions of teaching in departmental meetings

Yep - “servicing frictions” is just the catch-all term for both issues caused by services (which we call servicer errors in the report and provide % of affected borrowers) and caused by others (massive numbers of borrower transfers, many many postponements of restart date).

Special Four-Report Series on Student Loan Payments Resumption In a four-part series of special reports, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia studies the financial and economic impacts of the federal student loan payments resumption.

New research alert!

The 3rd report in CFI’s 4-part series on the student loan payments resumption is live.

Tomas Monarrez and I studied how aware borrowers were of the SAVE IDR plan, whether they intended to enroll, and who might see payment reductions if enrolled.

Just made the move from EconTwitter, so it's intro time! 👋

I'm a PhD candidate at UW-Madison. My research interests are in the economics of education and education policy (mostly higher ed), labor economics, and public economics.

Oh, and a shameless plug that i am on the job market this year 😉
