According to a lawsuit and our sources, Dolan’s head of corporate security takes such an expansive view of his mission that his employees will functionally cosplay as cops—patrolling the neighborhood, snooping on protesters if they happen to be in the area.
Dolan's biometric surveillance is so extensive that a New York City police officer’s photo was added to a facial recognition database and a child triggered an alert at one of Dolan’s properties.
We discovered that Dolan’s security teams obsessively tracked Nina Richards, identified in a lawsuit as a trans woman, over a two-year period, monitoring her movements through the venue down to the second. (WIRED is using a pseudonym in this article out of respect for her privacy.)
But the true extent of Dolan's panopticon has only been caught in glimpses. A 2025 lawsuit by a former member of the MSG security team lifted the veil, just a bit.
Owner James Dolan has watch lists of basketball fans who dared criticize his management. He keeps a close eye on his other venues too, including Radio City Music Hall and the Sphere in Las Vegas.

New Yorkers have known for a long time that going to a game or concert at the Garden meant surrendering some privacy. That, as you watched the show, the Garden in a real sense watched you.
It’s incredible to think of the impact his work still has, especially when things are tough.
I think he would’ve loved watching all the good people of Minnesota push away the bad. 💜
To claim women are inherently less capable ignores data & history. It says more about bias than reality. Every field needs competence, integrity, and accountability, those aren’t male traits, they’re human ones.
When we reduce people to stereotypes, we stop seeing what’s true in front of us.

WA state regs make it illegal for some daycare teachers to peel a banana - but opening a bag of Cheetos is just fine. Sadly, many states in the country treat serving fruits and vegetables in the same bureaucratic class as making sushi - and the result is more processed food for toddlers.
LeBron and Bronny James are the first father-son duo to play together in an NBA playoff game 👏
this reminds me, i don't think SCOTUS should be allowed to choose their own clerks. standardize the hiring schedule, put the applications in a pool, blind reads (perhaps by a panel of former clerks) and random assignments.
