I had no idea about this aspect of Hughes' life and work.

The fact we don’t even expect the federal government to meaningfully respond to this is so depressing.
This is bonkers.
Today, we hit record highs of 85-86 across DC area + had evening tstorms and tornado warnings.
Tomorrow, temps may drop into 30s w/ chance of wet snow mixing w cold rain.
The 24-hour temp change? 45 to 50F.
Crazy but a great example of how you can get 3 seasons in 1 day!
Everyone who tried to draw around me and started drawing LOVED it at the beginning because of their QUICK IMPROVEMENT. Then quit when they hit The Wall™️.
But it's when you hit The Wall™️ that you NEED to push through with practice!! And you gotta do it for yourself, because it's ALWAYS worth it! 😤
I will point out that it’s the largest room in the conference, and it’s standing room only. People do not want this.
kill the imposter syndrome in you head because not only is there someone out there doing it worse than you, they're also using chat gpt to do it
Anyways.
My family has always left it up until 元宵节 so today is the day 🫡
Brianna Tucker @BriannaATucker The top @PostGuild donation to laid off workers is $10,000 from a donor named Dorothy Gilliam. If that's the Dorothy many of us are familiar with — who in 1961 was the first Black female reporter at The Washington Post — it's profoundly bittersweet: Anonymous $100 • Recent donation Dorothy Gilliam $10,000 • Top donation Linda McConnell $200•14 d 7:28 PM • Feb 24, 2026 • 1,669 Views
@briannatucker.bsky.social, former national politics breaking news reporter for the Washington Post, made this observation on X tonight.
The largest contribution to the union's fund for laid off Post staff came from the Post's first Black woman reporter.

This is cool as hell: An app designed to ping people about nearby smartglasses.
Also cool: The creator was inspired by @404media.co coverage, a great illustration of why their journalism is so essential. This kind of work is funded by paid subscribers so become one of those if you can.
A meme of Alysa Liu based on Da Share Zone reading: JUST WALK OUT work social thing movies home class dentist figure skating too fancy weed store cops it your quick friend ships IF IT SUCKS... HIT DA BRICKS!!! Real winners quit You can leave!! Da Gold Zone
I’ve been talking about Alysa Liu’s story about her quitting skating only to come back and become even better because she did it for herself and this came to me in a dream…
I need you to understand the significance of a Team USA men's hockey team player snitching on his teammates and Kash Patel to PROPUBLICA reporter @williamturton.bsky.social minutes after winning a goal medal
3) i feel aware of the way that corporations and billionaires will structure society around them, use them to push people further away from each other, and make all of society dependent on them to line their own pockets
the more i think about it, my feelings about genAI are similar to my feelings about cars. they're semi-interesting technology that i have decided to avoid because
1 ) of their environmental affects
2) i prefer the interactions i have with people and my surroundings if i don't use them

This really is a great picture:
@karenho.bsky.social Happy birthday Karen!!
Whoa the Corporation for Public Broadcasting website is totally gone👇
Thank god for the Internet Archive, so we at least have evidence of what they've erased: web.archive.org/web/20260122...
This is well put. So *many* technologies are joyous and progressive. The web was invented in a PUBLICLY FUNDED UNIVERSITY! It is, in fact, an aberration that the fascist VCs think they're the default with their approach to tech. They were only ever supposed to be a tiny fraction of the ecosystem.
A reminder that one thing that allowed Darwin to focus on science was a large team of servants that catered to his every need.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.
Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Every time I see images of tear gas filling the streets, I think about how it has been linked to spontaneous abortion. Fascists will prevent people from getting abortions while endangering wanted pregnancies. It’s reproductive control and coercion.

Delivery workers are less likely to run red lights, ride on sidewalks and ride without helmets than their recreational counterparts — defying claims that they sow street chaos, according to a new observational study of more than 1,700 cyclists.
I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.
And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”
Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.
This is Minneapolis:
I am SO behind on *every* basic life chore: grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry, errands.
Today I'm doing laundry for a neighbor family, who has been too afraid to leave to go to the laundromat for 6 weeks.
Maybe after that I will have energy to do my own family's laundry.
crazy that the website that I randomly decided to put together at 10AM yesterday has had over 25k unique visitors in 24 hours.
please keep sharing with your networks.
