A fun fact for you all is that ‘brig’ is the name of the type of ship. They were used as prisons so the word ended up as generic ‘prison cell in a ship’ into which one could be thrown

Man at station kiosk put my kit kat in the same small bag as my hot sausage roll, which I think qualifies for a ‘see it, say it, sorted’ report

I’ve so far bought and gifted three copies, and gave a proof to Maggie Aderin during xmas lecture rehearsals. That’s how I show I really love a book 😃

Wonderful talk by @drlucyrogers.com at @rigb.org last night. Highly recommend her book ‘Up’ which is rightly receiving accolades.

NEW: More than 160,000 private renters on low incomes face rent shortfalls worth up to hundreds or even thousands of pounds a year due to Labour’s housing benefit cuts

Greater Manchester and the West Midlands are particularly badly hit

I generally just scroll past and ignore the AI results but when I see an example so egregiously wrong as that I like to check what search terms prompt it to know a damn thing. In this case, just adding the word ‘history’

Some collectable 50p pieces go for a tenner (when new), a vintage one can set me back anything from £3. Never actually paid 50p for one.

ps while I don’t assume you know the answer to this, I’m afraid you’re now my go-to hay and straw guy

This makes sense except now I want to know when hay switched from being a byproduct (which it surely was originally) to its own hay industry
