@pauldjupe.bsky.social and I have found similar dynamics in our own survey data. The bump in young men's religiosity seems to be related to the embrace by young men of more conservative religious worldviews, not religion broadly speaking. For more, check out: religioninpublic.blog/2025/03/05/t...
Vivian Yee's New York Times piece on the movement to repeal women's suffrage tells this important story through individual voices. We have national survey data to add to the conversation. And it shows that this movement is gaining steam. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/02/u...
There's still a lot of debate of how Christian nationalism is measured or if it even exists. In this experiment, we present people with different definitions to see if they are more likely to embrace or reject the term. Do CNs embrace Christian values as much as they embrace the J6 Insurrection?
We suspect the true problem is threat of persecution. CN loses it's motive force when that threat abates. Figuring out what lever to pull to accomplish that is another story, but that should be the focus. (link is to a book showing the crucial role that threat plays in pushing CN to extremes)
It seems like the solvent to Christian nationalism is religious pluralism for all. But in our new research in Politics & Religion we find high support for pluralism among CNs. And when held jointly, CN wins the day. That is, CNs are more intolerant regardless of support for religious pluralism.

Or, @springer.springernature.com , how about if I don't visit your websites at all. I'd like to see that study, but not when you slap me with coercive options when we're contributing our work to you for free. Goodness.
I’ll try to throw this question on a future survey - curious if the complementarian men drift into the 2+ crowd…
That’s wild. I have so many questions. What’s the source for that?
It's actually frightening.
A Roy’s Report story reported on the misogynistic views of Reformed Pastor Dale Patridge. One comment called out the dangers of White Christian nationalism, which made us wonder: Is misogyny ltd to White CNs or is it a property of CNs of any race? We have the data, here's our look + answer is no:
"This is the crux of the American shortfall in life expectancy—it reflects a lot of people dying way younger than they should, not just a couple years taken off at old age."

Apocalyptics believe in embodied evil - like normal people are controlled by demons. One way we can tell is through a question that asked what portion of social groups are going to hell. Apocs surrounded by religious diversity see most Americans as damned, even among Christians and Republicans.
Reacting to the calls for more talk across lines of difference, we sought out where the limits are. And I think we found them. When those w apocalyptic religious views are exposed to diverse others, they actually show more extreme political views -- burn it all down, we need to resort to violence.
Is Charlie Kirk a Christian martyr? We've heard this from religious + political elites on the right, but how many people actually believe that? We included Qs about Kirk in a recent (12/25) survey, so we have answers! A substantial N of adults agree Kirk is a martyr, but Kirk proves to be divisive.
I asked my 18yo (US) and he guessed 41. Wild.
Ooooo, that’s a good one.
. @brooklynwalker.bsky.social and I find Catholics are divided by CN and that divide cuts evenly across racial groups. Catholics also connect their CN to immigration attitudes in the same way across race. The Bishops are going to have a hard time reaching this significant segment of CN adherents 2/2
Spurred on by Pope Leo, the US Catholic Bishops released a statement decrying the immigration policies of the Trump Admin. It's also going out to the faithful, who arent necessarily on the same page, especially the Christian nationalist Catholics. We are able to draw several important lessons. 1/2
Just dropped! My take on our new @prri.org American Values Survey. Key findings:
*Most Americans believe Trump has gone too far.
*56% now see Trump as a potentially dangerous dictator whose power should be limited before he destroys American democracy.

If people want to fix the “male loneliness epidemic,” instead of focusing on the ways women are “at fault,” maybe we should start with a tough love talk with the 28% of men who support taking away women’s right to vote? Just an idea.
Thanks. It’s been impossible to recreate the magic of olden times twitter.

Figure shows growing support for a household vote system as complementarianism grows, especially strongly among men complementarians.
You have to see it to believe it. 22% favor repeal of the 19th and 21% adoption of a household vote (weighted). Those %s grow rapidly among complementarians - rising to 50% of men comps (30% of women comps) favoring a household vote; 42% of men comps (28% of women comps) favor repeal of the 19th.
We've seen religious elites and social media warriors call for the end of women’s suffrage. But we don’t have a sense of how everyday Americans feel about women’s political rights.
Until now.
We preview new survey results about repeal of the 19th Amendment and adoption of a household vote.
Much appreciated, Andrew!
This is research with @brooklynwalker.bsky.social @aesokhey.bsky.social Brian Calfano and Andrew Lewis using a big dataset of quota samples of ~1500 of white, Black, and Latino Christians from Fall 2022. We think it's time to stop assuming CN=White CN.
The trick is that White CN has been found distinct on racialized issues (voting, policing, etc) but hasn't been tested on other issues. We did that and found almost zero daylight on social and economic issues between racial groups as their CN climbs. There's a LOT more agreement than anyone thought
