The UNFCCC has recognised the Disability Caucus, creating a collective platform for meaningful participation in climate processes!

Kirsty Smith, CEO of CBM UK said this historic step will ensure "the voices of the most marginalised, including people with disabilities, are heard and acted upon.”

“We need to rebuild public and political consensus behind that fundamental idea that we all understand - that global challenges need global solutions.”

A powerful message from CBM UK CEO and Chair of @bondngo.bsky.social Kirsty Smith in her address to Bond members at this week’s AGM.

As we await the Chancellor’s budget announcement, CBM UK’s conviction is unchanged: to break the cycle of poverty and disability, inclusive development is not optional.

Less than 1% of UK aid is targeted specifically at the billion people with disabilities globally. Aid cuts mean that those most marginalised will be left even further behind.

By including people with disabilities at the table - 1 in 6 people worldwide - we can build a just world where future generations can thrive.

The UK government must not miss this opportunity at COP30 to make sure people with disabilities and other marginalised communities are included in climate action. Disability inclusion should not be an afterthought as we transition towards renewable energy and green jobs.

1 billion people with disabilities live in countries at risk from climate disasters and recent events in the Caribbean, the Philippines and the Pacific Islands have demonstrated the devastating impact on those most often left behind.

CBM UK welcomes the recognition of the serious impact of the climate crisis on the communities who have done the least to cause it but regrets that there was no mention of disability inclusion.

We believe that people with disabilities must have a seat at the decision-making table and that climate action needs to be strong, inclusive, and well-resourced. We're proud to stand with others calling on the UK Government to champion a bold and fully-funded outcome on just transition at #COP30.
