Google marks all Gemini-created text with its SynthID text watermarking system. They have released public detectors for media. They have not for text, and they have not publicly said why they haven't. Regulators and legislators should ask them.
guys why does it feel so weird when academics write 'I am hiring' lol, might have done it myself, cringing
"In October 2024, the University of Bristol provided the firm with a list of student protest groups it wished to receive alerts about, an internal university email suggests. It included pro-Palestinian and animal rights activists." www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/4/...
I do speak French, not the point
probably not intellectual enough, but find it so annoying when authors leave quotes in French in EN academic texts untranslated (not even in the footnote).

this kind of thing is happening too often and too widely, and we're just sitting ducks in the face of it. good on al jazeera and liberty investigates for their work in uncovering it.
Taking a break from my holiday to share this piece that has been torturing me for months: fll.um.edu.mo/new-tasks-an... I explore whether there is something genuinely new about this moment (yes, for sure), why is neo/liberal legalism collapsing, and what does this all mean for IL scholarship

Greta Thunberg is right.
NOW: B52 bombers are literally in the air on their way to Iran and hundreds of thousands of Iranians are in the streets waving flags and surrounding bridges & power plants.
Difficult to imagine this has any precedent in modern warfare.

Why are people so forgiving of Habermas Gaza genocide denialism
Habermas as an ethnic thinker Par Excellence: on critique, Palestine and the role of intellectuals Irfan Ahmad Taking Habermasâ 2023 statement on Palestinians-Israel as the point of entry, this article examines his concept of critique. Against the dominant view of him as a philosopher of âuniversalismâ and âcritical rationality,â my thesis is that Habermas is an ethnic thinker, for, his ideas of critique and universalism unidirectionally rest on âto allâ rather than âfrom all.â Consequently, it is missionary and borders on Islamophobia, particularly after 9/11. I show how Habermasâ denial of Palestiniansâ genocide and his unqualified support to âIsrael's right to existâ as integral to Germany's âdemocratic ethosâ is neither an ample departure from his participation in the Hitler Youth nor from his understanding of the Enlightenment-modernity but largely their offshoots. I also juxtapose Habermasâ role as a public intellectual with that of Imam Malik (d. 795) who chose to be flogged rather than parrot unjust language of power elites. I conclude with three broad implications this article has in the field of teaching in higher education.

We had such a good conversation at this event two weeks ago. Just 1.5 hour is basically nothing esp if you want to discuss both more big picture context and on the ground solidarity activities. In any case, will plan at least a whole day thing next time decolonialfutures.uva.nl/content/even...
