Please re-read the article and reconsider your the second sentence of your post. Reducing damage to the roads clearly is a good reason why it would be better to have fewer SUVs.

Worth adding that SUVs are also more dangerous and worse for the environment, so they really are a win, win, win.

What do you mean "not really"? The amount of money being spent fixing potholes is at record levels. Are you suggesting that heavier vehicles don't have a greater impact than lighter ones? Some heavy vehicles e.g. fire trucks are necessary, the domestic SUV is not.

The amount of money spent fixing potholes is at record levels but selfish people driving oversized vehicles is making the situation much worse.
