Let me correct myself: the high speed ferry is about 75 minutes.

Still, he could theoretically get from BC Place to Cathedral Grove in about 2 and a half hours, without using a helicopter or seaplane.

8 months ago 2 0 1 0

You do have to take the ferry, but the actual sailing is only about an hour. There's a passenger-only high speed ferry that goes from
downtown Vancouver to Nanaimo, the second-largest city on the Island. It's a doable daytrip for a special event, and a common destination for a long weekend.

They put this into place without a proper way for local escalation; the end result of a a long line of decisions not wanting to have to deal with pesky customers nor with pesky employees.

These companies will eventually die.

Justice department drops cases against LA protesters after officers caught making false claims Revealed: records show border patrol gave inaccurate testimony about people it jailed. Prosecutors now face ‘embarrassing’ dismissals

Lying by an officer should be a one-strike-you're-fired situation, and the officers who did so should all be prosecuted. I won't hold my breath. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

The only thing the tech industry creates anymore is fake hype cycles to artificially inflate their stock price. And in the meantime we all get inflicted with their bullshit as everyone is told "it's the next big thing and you don't want to miss out!"

"Your health records will be on the block chain."
"Everyone will live in the Metaverse."
"All art will be NFTs."
"Generative AI will replace the need for humans."

We need to reckon with the reality that the tech industry no longer creates things that anyone wants.

Random facts about Canada—

Canadian law allows for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed anywhere in the world to be prosecuted in Canada.

Canada allows private individuals to initiate prosecutions for criminal offences, forcing public prosecutors to either discontinue or continue it.

This meeting condemns the Supreme Court ruling defining the term 'woman' with respect to the Equality Act as being based on 'biological sex', which they refer to as a person who 'was at birth of the female sex', as reductive, trans and intersex-exclusionary and biologically nonsensical.
We recognize as doctors that sex and gender are complex and multifaceted aspects of the human condition and attempting to impose a rigid binary has no basis in science or medicine while being actively harmful to transgender and gender diverse people. As such this meeting:
i. Reiterates the BMA's position on affirming the rights of transgender and non-binary individuals to live their lives with dignity, having their identity respected.
Reminds the Supreme Court of the existence of intersex people and reaffirms their right to exist in the gender identity that matches their sense of self, regardless of whether this matches any identity assigned to them at birth.
iii. Condemns scientifically illiterate rulings from the Supreme Court, made without consulting relevant experts and stakeholders, that will cause real-world harm to the trans, non-binary and intersex communities in this country.
iv.
Commits to strive for better access to necessary health services for trans, non-binary and gender-diverse people.

The British Medical Association Resident Doctors are the backbone of the NHS, they look after us all in hospital.

They passed this motion at their conference which pulls the “supreme” court judgement to pieces.

They call it

“scientifically illiterate”
and
“biologically nonsensical”

Good:

* Poilievre isn't Prime Minister.
* Poilevre lost his own seat.

Bad:

* Everything has shifted substantially rightward.
* 40% of popular vote and +20 seats for Cons.
* Basically a two-party parliament of centre right and far right.
* Left leaning parties wiped out.

Text from a tweet from the Toronto Police Association. It reads, "We asked the leading contenders for Prime Minister for their position on the policing and public safety issues that matter the most to our members and the communities we serve.

As you head to the ballot box next week, consider these responses. It is clear to us there is only one Party that has maintained a strong position on public safety issues and proactively supported police services.

While our vote is with @PierrePoilievre and the @CPC_HQ, we will work with whoever leads the next government and we will hold them accountable as we continue to advocate for our members and the public."

The Toronto Police Association's members and Executive are subject to the Police Services Act, which prohibits the endorsement of political candidates. The Police Board affirmed this position in 2010. This post — which is an egregious abuse of power — shouldn't be above the law.

Who Governs the University? With authoritarian threats looming, our campus needs democracy.

Here my colleague Gabe Winant asks "Who governs the University?" We should all be asking this question. These institutions are landlords, healthcare providers, employers, police forces, and educators. They should be democratically governed.
