Second cool thing I learned about is the book "A Pattern Language" book from @neighborfulstation.bsky.social en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Patte...
Had a great time at Barcamp Philly #bcphilly yesterday and meeting new people and seeing folks I haven't seen in quite a bit.
Biggest thing I'm excited to explore is www.joinphilly.com for IRL communities/clubs
At #bcphilly today, community is back!
Text objects! Perform an action inside/around parens/bracket/tag
ie to yank everything inside an html tag where the cursor is: yit
To delete everything in parens (including the parens): da(
...But at every intersection along South Broad, five or six Philadelphia police officers - who were waiting in frigid temps to conduct crowd control - gathered around one officer's cell phone, watching the game, and hooped and hollered as the Eagles advanced.

Might have to get a Barkley jersey #gobirds

You know what people hear when you say this? Especially other men who are less powerful than you? That the status quo is inevitable, and they shouldn't bother sticking their neck out to change it. That those who care are suckers, weaker than you tough guys.
But what I hear is your own weakness.
I'm increasingly pissed off at men in leadership positions posting here that companies backsliding on DEI etc is inevitable, and treating people who are angry about it as naive children. All you are showing is that you are a leader who either a) doesn't care or b) lacks the guts to fight against it.
The shadows on the court also make it look like half the lights are on
Potentially! Goal would definitely be to have some topics around databases and how to use them effectively
Cool! Will reach out when there's more info!
This is super nascent, but I want to build something we can be proud of. Please contact me here or at "email [at] phlsystems.xyz"
* If you can *host* meetups in Philly OR
* If you'd like to co-organize OR
* If there's any topics you can present on!
Hey! I've been jealous of NYC, DC, and other locales having a Systems meetup group.
So, I'm looking to start one for Philly in early 2025:

There's an email signup form on the website to get more info when it comes out!
So hey, maybe it’ll help somebody. About eighteen months ago, I found out I had breast cancer. I got a phone call and I sat there and said the right things and hung up and sat in my car and just had cancer for a bit.
Greetings from #srecon EMEA! Let's try the old Twitter thing of liveblogging all of the conference. One thread for each day, with today being day one. Let's get started!

👋 Re-introduction post! Hey, I'm Nick, an engineer in the Philly burbs working on database + search infrastructure. I've worked a bunch with Postgres, Elasticsearch, MySQL.
Currently I'm working on internal storage platforms at Datadog, focusing on Postgres.

Here's Claude 3.5 Sonnet (2024-06-20) and Claude 3.5 Sonnet (2024-10-22): Two images that are recognizable as pelicans on bicycles Gemini 1.5 Flash 001 and Gemini 1.5 Flash 002: Two images that are NOT.
I spun up a new LLM benchmark: how well can they handle this prompt?
Generate an SVG of a pelican riding a bicycle
I find the results so far utterly delightful: simonwillison.net/2024/Oct/25/pelicans-on-...
I get flabbergasted every time they’re surprised that peanut butter and a jam goes well together

this is one of the coolest things I have seen in such a long time
The “we’re finding kids from around the globe to play in the NFL” ad isn’t as cute as they thought
A gallon of strawberry lemonade water ice
In the most Philadelphian thing I’ve done recently, you can just go to the water ice factory and pick up a few gallons. At $8.95/gallon it’s pretty cheap too
