An illustration of Sean Connery's character from Zardoz done in the style of a Judy Blume novel cover. The title is "Are You There God? It's Us, An Unofficial Hugo Book Club Blog" In the upper left corner is "A Hugo Voter Pack" done in the style of a book publisher imprint. There is a catch phrase up top "Irreverent, incoherent opinions about SFF."
Now we get to work on our Hugo Voter packet submission for @thehugoawards.bsky.social ...
(Cover by our friend, the incredible and talented @dntlz.bsky.social)
You know when you read a sentence and you completely understand what it's referencing at the same time you are gobsmacked that all those words are in conjunction with each other? Yeah, that's this πππ
Okay. Let's take a moment to talk about How To Be A Hugo Nominee And Come Out Of It Happy About the Honor. I realize this is relevant to like, twelve people. I don't care, those twelve people deserve my time. (You may have seen a version of this thread before. I do it every year.)
we all know I have no life, so:
Across five prose fiction categories, there are 30 different authors shortlisted.
That means no author was shortlisted more than once for a novel, short story, novelette, novella, or series.
Awesome to note there are 10 authors who appear on the ballot in those five categories for the first time.
Conversely, I, a single woman, have zero human nurturing instincts.
I mean, I wouldn't leave a baby in a ditch, but I don't go all gooey when I encounter one.
Puppies on the other hand.....
My feed today is half birds and half Hugo finalists.
And I'm perfectly okay with that π
You can follow all the finalists (or at least all the ones who have Bsky accounts) for the 2026 Hugo Awards right here with this starter pack.

There are some important things to remember in terms of Awards-shortlist day etiquette. A short thread.
Even folks I really like and respect make some blunders on this stuff.
1) Allow people to enjoy the shortlist. Avoid dismissing the finalists (whomever they are) for at least a month.

EXACTLY!
I gave a talk at conference a couple of years ago, and to my everlasting disappointment, the organizers wouldn't let me call it "Don't Screw This Up Because Killing People Is Bad For Business", which I thought was much catchier than what I ended up calling it π€·πΌββοΈ
Dammit, autocarrot, LOON. It's a perfectly cromulent word.
Also! Managed to see a common loan, which is a relatively rare site on the Niagara River! Also heard a Northern House Wren, so spring is here! #birds πͺΆ

A photograph of a very tired out puppy sleeping on a red blanket on the backseat of a car. No really, she is not mine.

An advertisement showing 2 sets of ChiaoGoo square interchangeable needle tips in red and silver packaging, with the "Quads" logo on the right side and a picture of the Adapter Swivels on the left side. The title claims that "It's hip to be square", from the title of a Huey Lewis song old enough that some folks aren't going to get it (oh my stars, I just checked and it was 1986).
The new ChiaoGoo square interchangeables you've been waiting for - available in 4" and 5"!
