Excited for this new publication in Milbank Quarterly! Using Medicaid claims, @rgourevitch.bsky.social, @maria-steenland.bsky.social and I find that extended Medicaid during COVID-19 was associated with increases in postpartum coverage, ED visits, and behavioral health diagnoses tinyurl.com/yfmbxtwz
Working on a powerpoint slide deck about abortion in NJ. I tried the "designer" option, and it suggested a background photo of an infant. This is definitely new and suggests some strong bias in the AI behind it.
In recent years, telehealth medication abortion has exploded 📬
1 in 4 abortions is now done via telehealth - still blows my mind
Yet for awhile now @lauralindberg.bsky.social & I have had a bee in our bonnet about the lack of options for minors

On my way to DC to celebrate a milestone birthday of a dear friend from grad school @um-psc.bsky.social . We’ve known each other since before marriage, children, careers, aging parents. I went to study demography and left with a PhD — and so much more. Find your people and hold onto them.❤️
last year one of my professional conferences said they had no choice but to meet on passover. This year another org’s conference is on Yom Kippur. I will not be registering.
New report out: Abortion Needs & Availability in New Jersey — 2025 Update.

Very excited that @lauralindberg.bsky.social and I just posted a preprint of a paper that we've been working on for a while, looking at the (lack of) comparability of the most recent NSFG with prior waves of data. Feedback extremely welcome!

Love how Bridgerton gives middle-aged women “intimacy” the way TV always does: brief, tasteful, and safely off-screen. The age cutoff for erotic storytelling remains intact in a show that’s broken so many other barriers.
of all the things wrong and awful about this, let’s add that “In the Jungle” is *not* from The Lion King.
watching the olympic opening ceremony.,, want to feed the Armani models.
Plastic surgeons' society advises no gender affirming care before age 19 for transgender and non-binary young people. I assume they also mean to include breast reductions/ gynecomastia surgery on cis-gender young people and nose jobs as well? www.statnews.com/2026/02/03/g...
i prefer it to coital infrequency
so what has everyone been cooking in the snowstorm? I’ve made chicken soup, ribs, and seven layer bars. I’m trying to make pickle chips in the air fryer, but not very optimistic.
i can tell you what the mahjong moms are saying… friends have been buying this shirt
Our new research finds that many adolescents and young adults in the U.S. South (esp Black women)experience pressure —from providers, partners, or parents—to use specific contraceptive methods or avoid contraception altogether, shaping whether they can use their preferred method. bit.ly/49ydbm0
A friendly reminder for fellow sociologists and demographers: early registration for the PAA meetings (May 6-9 in St. Louis) closes tomorrow, Jan 17.
Maybe y'all knew that, but by default my email app filters all bulk emails from external orgs into spam/junk.

If we’re serious about improving maternal health, we have to be serious about how we train midwives.
Clinical training can make or break the midwifery workforce: supportive preceptors build confident clinicians, while bullying and bias hinder learning.

MAGA uses MAHA as a shield for priorities that have little to do with health and much to do with limiting women’s opportunities and roles in society to marriage and motherhood.
New paper on the experiences of sexual and gender minority (SGM) students in midwifery clinical training, documenting how discrimination and hostile learning environments shape their experiences. Improving provider equity benefits both providers and patients. www.liebertpub.com/doi/full/10....
How do we show up as researchers in 2026? This slide from my #PAA talk offers a good list of New Year's resolution. As too much of the federal surveillance systems and support for science have gone dark, we need to be the light.🕯️🧨
