I saw Mike’s supporting The Clash in Manchester in 1980. Apparently he produced Bankrobber, which was recorded there.

I write and I write and I write.
So I made a video for a change. Can Bradley replace Alexander-Arnold??

My wife is planning her attending this year’s The Festival Of Quilts, which always makes me snigger given what a “quilt” can mean in Scouse. I also enjoy explaining why I think it funny to all and sundry. A highlight of my year 😂
Thanks to our recent diner Paul for this lovely 5-star Google review 🙏

Oh Rae, I’m so sorry to hear such desperately sad news. Take care x
Their sound switches between rather polished power pop, late 60s psychedelica, and the jagged punk riffs that would give birth to New Wave.

Based on Benjamin Malkin on the Elan Valley in 1803...
“Mr Groves is a Wiltshire gentleman, who purchased ten thousand of these almost worthless acres a few years since, and is making a paradise of the wilderness…”

I have that lp but can’t have played it since the year it came out 😬
Some people in recent days have alleged a ‘cover-up’ over the grooming & rape of hundreds of young girls in predominantly northern UK towns, leading to calls for a ‘national’ public inquiry into child sexual exploitation
FWIW here’s a non-exhaustive list of inquiries into #CSE in last 12 yrs…
Ramones supported by Talking Heads - incredibly different but breathtaking together

24 years ago today, #TheFastShow finally said goodbye in what was then the ‘last ever episode’. (Clip edited for Bluesky 60 second limit)
We've all got a Christmas present - a new cover of Trees & Flowers was released today. The Golden Tree is a project of Bobby Bluebell (The Bluebells) and Grahame Skinner (Hipsway) covering songs by Scottish artists.

Two of my favourite and socially eloquent Liverpudlians come together in this piece by Tony Evans which includes the words of Ian Prowse’s masterful Does This Train Stop On Merseyside @tonyevans92a.bsky.social @ianprowse.bsky.social
So pleased our midfield is scoring
Fun fact:
Back in 2019, around 40,000 songs were being uploaded to Spotify every day
In 2023 it jumped to 120,000 tracks a day!?
With AI slop this is expected to rise further this year
And yet I still attempted to make an albums of the year list 🤷 www.drownedinsound.org/2024s-albums...

Fans and friends of the marvellous @wallytbm.bsky.social will remember he spent time in the UK this summer. He told @nwrbroadcast.bsky.social all about it and here is the first page of their chat from the Assistant zine. Grab one to read the rest of their lovely chat.
The non-absorbent festive towels are out
I loved a surprise dub version on the B side of a punk single. I played Wild Dub more than I did Wild Youth by Generation X
Aprovechando que hoy "Last Christmas" ha vuelto al número 1 de la lista del Reino Unido, dejo por aquí la versión que hicieron The xx (que además los covers no cuentan para el #whamaggedon).
Wow! 🤩

I was in the Gwladys Street End for some reason and remember this vividly. It’s a little cruel that it ended up a joke quiz question “When did a donkey win The Derby?”
In Bristol airport for a flight to Cork to meet up with friends from university for a few days. We have been getting together on the first weekend in December since graduating in 1980! One of our number has emigrated and it’s his turn to host so Ireland it is 🇮🇪 🎄
I’ll do that, Brychan 👍
