On Trans Day of Visibility, we celebrate trans people, past, present, and future.
Trans people have driven innovation, shaped culture, advanced science, and led movements for justice, often while fighting to simply be seen and safe. Today, we honor their achievements, resilience, and joy.

Everyday, abortion providers show up to give compassionate care and create safe spaces for their patients against all odds. They listen to their patients' stories, feel their emotions, and help them get the care that is right for them. Today, thank an abortion provider for changing & saving lives.

Q: Can a vasectomy prevent STIs? A: No. While a vasectomy is extremely effective at preventing pregnancy, it does not provide any protection against sexually transmitted infections. [7/🧵]
Q: Is it reversible? A: A vasectomy is considered a sterilization and is meant to be permanent. Reversing a vasectomy is an option, but it doesn't always work and is not always covered by insurance. These procedures can be costly and with no promise they will restore your fertility. [6/🧵]
Q: Does it work right away? A: No. It will take approximately 90 days after a vasectomy for ejaculate to be sperm-free. During that time, another form of birth control is necessary to prevent pregnancy. After 90 days, we will do a sperm analysis to make sure the vasectomy was successful. [5/🧵]
Q: What happens during the procedure? A: During the procedure, the small tubes called vas deferens are disconnected, preventing sperm from entering the semen* and causing pregnancy which can’t happen when there is no sperm to meet the egg.
*This does not impact erectile function or ejaculation [4/🧵]
Q: Who is eligible? A: People with testes who are over 18 and interested in lifelong contraception [3/🧵]
Q: Why get a vasectomy? A: There are many reasons to get a vasectomy.
- You & your partner want to permanently prevent pregnancy without worrying about daily or routine birth control methods
- You don’t plan on having biological children
- It's an affirming step for you in your gender identity [2/🧵]
Q: What is a vasectomy? A: Vasectomy is a simple, safe, and extremely effective form of permanent birth control that works by disconnecting the vas deferens, the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles. [1/🧵]
PPLM now offers vasectomies. We get lots of questions about the procedure, so here are some of the most commonly asked questions! Got more? Ask them below! 🧵

January is Cervical Health Awareness Month!
The FDA recently approved self-testing methods for HPV, which causes cervical cancer, and our research with Teal Health helped it possible. Self-test options matter, especially for people who aren't comfortable getting a pelvic exam.
