it's interesting what happened to the Hell House LLC series. the first one was just a really efficient haunted house of a movie, one good scare after another. it did well and the screenwriter's eyes rolled back in his head and he started mumbling "more lore, more lore"

I've read a few horror novels with "explainer" endings recently and it certainly seems to be a trend. Feels like they only ever succeed at slowing down when they should be careening off the rails.
