🧵1/6 After the El Fasher massacre, I identified a large UAE-aligned influence operation on X promoting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Around 19,000 accounts showed strong indicators of automation - bots marcowenjones.substack.com/p/i-found-19... #Sudan #Dysinfluence

A few months ago, we published our short doc on a military camp that can be linked to the RSF, about 80km south of Kufrah airport.
This camp was already active in January this year, and still is until this day.

Geolocation of trucks on fire in the desert
With CIR's Sudan Witness, I mapped these tracks and identified truck-sized objects and smoke plumes along this route from Kufrah far into Sudan, such as this one captured by Planet on 5 November, coming from a convoy allegedly hit by an airstrike.
This Sentinel-2 timelapse shows a route connecting Kufrah, Libya with Sudan.
Vehicle tracks on this leg eastwards into Sudan – not visible in prior years – become visible following an increase of cargo flights at Kufrah airport.

Of these 384 reported strikes, 168 were corroborated by collecting and verifying user-generated content and analysis of satellite imagery.
Munitions remnants identified in multiple cases can be linked to the SAF.
More than 1700 civilian deaths were reported as a result of these strikes
BBC already reported on our work yesterday, see below

Tomorrow, we will publish our Sudan airstrikes dashboard, showing patterns of hits on residential neighbourhoods, markets and vulnerable communities.

Natural resource exploitation in #Sudan continues to be fueling the conflict. A new report by @paxforpeace.nl shows how the trade in #gumarabic is financing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) through looting, taxation, and control of illicit trade routes.

When my grandfather died in 2004, I was 11. At his home in Nijmegen I found a battered briefcase, unopened for years. Inside: photos, consular forms and letters — a history of falling empire, colonial decoupling and rising nationalism that marked those who lived it.

GitHub recently restricted access to repos filed with OSINT/dark web/infosec links and resources. I spoke to multiple people that had their accounts blocked from public view without warning or explanation.

We traced an armoured vehicle used in a violent attack in Sudan, all the way back to a location in the middle of Libya's desert.
There it was parked, at a location where we found hundreds of other vehicles parked in rows.

Thank you, I did read that a long time ago, but thanks for sharing and reminding me! Very interesting.
This investigation involves what may be the most extreme geolocation I've ever done.
Gevonden! Inderdaad Riga, Stabu Stiela 1. Zelfs jaren geleden bevestigd door @olafkoens.bsky.social zelf 🙂. Muur heeft inmiddels een likje verf gehad.
Wat goed, @trouw.nl.
Remnants from the same model were also circulated last Saturday after an alleged drone strike on a prison in El Obeid
For the record, but it appears these are not GB50/GB7A, but newer GB50/GB7B. You can see the difference in how the tail fins are mounted to the bomb. Also see www.info-res.org/reports/alle... (disclaimer: I'm part of Sudan Witness)
And to stick with the metaphor: an electric whisk is not gonna be very helpful at places where there’s no electricity. I mean there will be large differences with areas that are underrepresented or have less data density
