I much prefer collaboration.
We can trust content creators too readily, but this shows they can be uniquely important sources. (CHECK, VERIFY)
Also, collective action from content users can catalyze more social responsibility and accountability.
Media are everyone's power tools when we don't let media use us.

As usual, antivax denialists conveniently equate coincidence with causation, misinterpret passive surveillance data, and disregard the best available scientific evidence.
Thank you, Prof Jeffrey Morris @jsm2334.bsky.social for helping to put out the latest fires set by Musk and friends.
Evidence versus yelling.
Ooooooo
Wowza!
And you already looked MAHVELOUS ❤️
The Door Dash driver from AK (no, TN! NV! MO!) delivered to White House in DC, all made up, to POTUS at the door, no security, with camera crews.
SO REALISTIC that many news outlets covered it as authentic without context or question?
We need #medialiteracy for journalism.
If this isn't enough, if you read the thread for a while you get to SpongeBob
This is an infographic that offers advice on how people can apply their media literacy skills by encouraging people to: 1) Check and be aware of your emotions 2) Think about the source’s expertise and credibility 3) Look at the Content by analyzing and comparing multiple sources 4) Act based on the evidence. The infographic is backed by previous research and developed by the Edward R. Murrow Collaborative for Media and Health Promotion Research at Washington State University, with the goal of providing an accessible resource and advice on media literacy. If you are interested in accessing the infographic, you can do so and can download it at https://labs.wsu.edu/ericawaustin/media-literacy-resources/

AI errors often don’t show up right away, You can’t just preview a bit of content to conclude it’s safe.
Policy hasn’t kept up w practice and profit.
“The onus is on parents to separate the slop from the good stuff,” said neuro-psych expert Kathy Hirsh-Pasek.
Parents must have #medialiteracy
May this brave musician and all the civilians in Iran be protected from harm. share.google/pHVziAXuqwZ5...
General good rule of thumb, don't repost "news" from breaking events from non-reporters that fail to include links.
Just FYI: Seeing a few protest crowd photos shared on here that appear to be AI-generated.
But there’s lots of reporters out there today taking photos and video (especially, it seems, @statesnewsroom.com), so you may wanna keep an eye on what journalists post.
Community and cooperation. What a stunning thing to have recorded. Just beautiful.

I'm way behind on this, but if you are too, the whole series is too wonderful to be missed. 🎶 🐤
This is a super important survey for journalists and not-journalists to answer about what makes the practice of journalism ethical, now that many people getting news and information don't get that content from "journalists."

Iranian journalist with 20+ yrs investigating Islamist groups, "all of a sudden I’m seen as partial." “Have there been any complaints made against her?” “No.”
BBC accused of bias from left AND right. "But...doesn’t seem to respond to each side with the same weight."
Maybe bc of license fee lobby.
May their memories be a blessing. Condolences to their families. Deep appreciation for their selfless service.
Perceptions of the changing news environment:
Younger adults tend to be much more likely than older Americans to say that people who report on or host a news podcast, write their own newsletter about news, or make posts about news on social media are journalists.

From the article:Warning for a colorectal cancer screening: Unintentional weight loss https://www.dnews.com/local-news/colon-cancer-on-the-rise-in-younger-people-7fb22728 Night sweats Fatigue Passing bright red blood Passing black, tarry stool Unexplained abdominal pain Changes in stool shape or girth
“If you do have a personal or family history of inflammatory bowel disease or colorectal cancer, you should get screened earlier," a decision to you should make with your doctor, Claassen said. Obesity and eating
an excessive amount of red meats are also at an increased risk for colorectal cancer.
Important PSA: It should come from Surgeon General and CDC, but instead it's from my wonderful local newspaper/public broadcasting combo:
Young adults might need colonoscopy sooner than they expect if they have risk factors or symptoms listed.
You can be a role model! 💩☺️❤️

"When a 65-year-old tree in Parker’s front yard died of oak wilt, he cut the trunk into “wood cookies” + transformed them into playable records, each encoded with migratory birdsong... The project emerged from Parker’s recognition that his grief for the tree echoed the loss of his father to cancer"
Amazing ❤️🎶
Wonderful!
Wanting to share about beautiful things that *should* be flying through the sky.
Bipartisan support passed a new Washington state law to tie vaccine insurance coverage to state health Dept recs based on science (not the anti-science RFK federal panel).
It does not mandate vaccines, so people can make their own choices.
Gov sign. expected soon.
