I live on the souther end of the state where influential (adults) in town were amplifying calls to cancel her speech because it was “too soon” and didn’t properly honor Charlie’s memory. Actual students seemed excited to hear her speak.

Even if this had been a student-led initiative to cancel the speech, imagine the NYT coverage if the polarity was reversed and progressive students on a college campus demanded that a speaker's invitation be revoked...like if Oberlin students demanded cancellation of a center-right speaker.

From what I can tell, this invitation to speak was revoked at the behest of billionaire-funded TPUSA and GOP Senator Mike Lee, NOT because there was a groundswell of authentic, grassroots opposition from the student body.

"The murder that was horrific and should never have happened does not magically erase what was said or done," Ms.
McMahon said. "But if you were a Charlie Kirk fan, you might not realize why there is so much backlash to posts eulogizing his death."
The resurfaced posts angered conservative commentators and Republican lawmakers, who rushed to defend Mr. Kirk and urged others to tell the university they felt the same.
Senator Mike Lee of Utah led a campaign over several days on X to pressure the university to revoke the invitation.
"Raise your hand if you'd like @UVU to reconsider inviting Ms. McMahon," he wrote in one post.

McMahon's intention in sharing Charlie Kirk's own words a few days after his death, was to explain to her audience why it is that Kirk was such a polarizing figure. The answer is, because he intended to be a polarizing figure. And for telling that truth, Kirk's organization has now cancelled her.

Ms. McMahon said she felt like the victim of an organized cancellation campaign - the kind, she said, Mr. Kirk probably would have opposed. She defended her deleted post, noting she had used Mr. Kirk's words.
"There's nothing I said that I believe was incorrect or that I feel I need to apologize for," she said.

Look, no offense Ms. McMahon and I'm sorry your talk got cancelled by an arm of the Republican Party called TPUSA, but Charlie Kirk led an organization who's entire purpose was to drive voices like yours out of the public sphere to clear unchallenged space for their own ignorant bigotry.

You'll never believe what this speaker--now cancelled thanks to "free speech" warriors like TPUSA & Sen. Mike Lee--posted about Charlie Kirk.

She said she was "gutted" by his murder. She described it as "horrific" and said it "should have never happened." And then she went on to post Kirk's words.

Billionaire funded TPUSA's goal is to police public discourse such that anyone to their left who speaks truthfully about what Charlie Kirk said or did, using his own words as evidence, will not be allowed to speak those truths to college students in red states. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/22/u...

One of the most frequent causes of Charlie Kirk related cancellation was accurately representing his views, or even quoting them verbatim.
She expressed grief about Kirk's murder, and the only hateful thing in the comments came from Kirk himself.

That 1964 map is the year Mississippi, a long time bastion of the racist white Dixiecrats, first flipped parties in a presidential election.

It was in reaction to Johnson signing the Civil Rights Act earlier that summer, which Republican nominee Barry Goldwater opposed on "state's rights" grounds.

The map on the right is the 2023 governor's race.

if southern white voters were, like, 50% less racist so many states would be in play

(which is not to say white voters everywhere aren't racist, but if you look at the white vote in the south vs the white vote everywhere else hoo boy)

Oh, so the problem isn’t the entire world singling you out, othering you and wanting you eliminated?

It’s a developmental thing?

Got it.

Just because she hates herself and her life, and despises the rest of us for holding her to account, doesn't mean she gets to decide to exterminate us all.

Being trans is a beautiful gift. It's a gift that's made things harder for me, yes, but I wouldn't give it up for anything.

Alt text: A graphic poster with a red banner reading “Urgent Relocation Support.” On the left is a portrait of a woman with long dark wavy hair wearing a black top, looking at the camera. On the right, text reads: “My name is Mel. I am a Black trans woman in Kansas and I need to leave immediately to get somewhere safer. Staying here is no longer safe or sustainable, and my mental health is at a breaking point. I’m raising funds to relocate and secure stable housing as soon as possible.” Below is a donation link: “ko-fi.com/melthedoll.” A section titled “How you can help” lists: “if you’re able” and “Share this post — it truly matters.” The poster ends with “Anything helps. Thank you for not looking away.” and repeats the link at the bottom.

This place got me in survival mode—anti-trans laws + racism nonstop. I just need somewhere I can breathe.

For any trans person reading Wu’s post, there is absolutely nothing wrong with you.

I'm not surprised Brianna is this miserable when she views being trans as this horrible thing filled with suffering.

Being trans has undoubtedly made my life harder but it's also been a blessing. But that's not unique to being trans. So many things in life are like that.

Screenshot of a social media post by Brianna Wu (@BriannaWu) that reads: "One of my biggest hopes for the future is that we can come up with some sort of test in utero to determine if a child is going to grow up to be transsexual, and then opt them out of the gene pool. It's, I can tell you firsthand, it's a horrific way to grow up, one that no ethical person should want to inflict on a child. The reason the trans community is so unstable online is the developmental damage that we invariably get. It's like a house being built where every floor is leaning, and by the time you get to the top, the entire structure is unstable. Repairing that damage has taken me a lifetime."

Brianna Wu advocates for the extermination of trans people by engaging in eugenicist selective abortions of fetuses determined to be trans.
