"They went door-to-door to tell their neighbors what the city had not told them: The data center would use twice as much electricity as all of Monterey Park."
The city’s notification in English reached only 40 people living within 500 feet. Activists worked in English, Chinese, Spanish & more!

Very cool that Omaha is trying to build bike culture and infrastructure by making its (all-electric) bike share system free for residents.

Or, one could think of it as a sign that they do know how to read the room. And then deciding "fuck you, we're going to do it anyway."
Come to think of it that's exactly what a coward stuck between their master & their constituents might do.

It seems like almost every week now WaPo gives me a moment of cognitive dissonance as I wonder if I’m sad I can’t unsubscribe or glad that I’ve already unsubscribed.
And then rolls down hill from there...
Yes. And, I know that he gets more disappointed in you with every passing day.
Good for you! My folks tried but nobody could answer the very obvious question after reading Genesis: "But who made god?" so they got an atheist instead.
But the took-100s-of-years to build cathedrals of Europe are worth seeing, if only to gain perspective on the thrall religion holds over so many.

But, no the "public" right-of-way is really a might-makes-right-of-way.
It's one of the ugly side effects of a culture in which it is genuinely difficult to survive in many parts of the country without a car – then add some rabid anti-commun/social-ism that makes it next to impossible to find non-individualistic solutions to our problems...
Cover of the book: "The Manly Art of Knitting" by Dave Fougner. The cover art is a photograph of a cowboy sitting on a horse in western tack and knitting.
Little, absolutely charming book (who knew that it was common for cowboys to knit), available, appropriately enough, for the Seattle Art Museum. shop.seattleartmuseum.org/products/the...
Or make something nice for a friend. Then it is priceless.
This makes me so happy!
Seems like a risky move unless they know for sure that they’re going to control the government for at least the rest of their lives.
Would have been lovely if Gallego followed up the "That is" response with a question along the lines of "So, then is it your sworn testimony that President Trump is the liar?"
And such a conflict of interest…
You mean like sort these and eliminate the duplicates? E.g., sort -u…
Frankly I don’t understand why this event *ever* existed, and I sure don’t get why a journalist would attend today except to report on the failure of the media to find a way to hold Trump to account.
True. I want universal call me back when someone is available.
“The EU’s highest court has found Hungary’s anti-LGBTQ+ law to be discriminatory, stigmatising and in breach of basic democratic values…”
This is a crucial decision. The court rejected the political claim that LGBTQ+ representation is “propaganda.” We must keep fighting politics that dehumanise us.
Ouch. That's the worst.
On a, mildly brighter, note, I recently discovered that my phone can detect hold music (and other hold slop) and mute and notify me when a human comes back on the line.
Prophetic Calvin & Hobes. Frame 1: Calvin asks: "Hey Dad, I'm doing a traffic safety poster, do you have any ideas for a slogan?" Frame 2: Dad, getting on to bicycle, replies: "Sure! 'Cyclists have a right to the road too you noisy, polluting, inconsiderate, maniacs! I hope gas prices go up to $8/gallon!'" Frame 3: Calvin: "Thanks, dad. I'll go ask mom." Dad (out of frame): "Why? That's a *great* slogan!"
