Here's some new Valkyrie art from her character designer to celebrate Valkyrie no Densetsu's 37th anniversary today

And I've dug up the 1st piece of fan art for the game to be published in Gamest, 1 month after the game's reveal. There was lots but this one just happened to be 1st in line

No mention of input lag so hopefully that'll be in patch 2. tbh you'd think they'd just release a patch to fix everything when it's ready as who's going to buy this when you know it's still broke in some ways? At least existing owners who were gipped are getting something

Endo specifically designed the game to be meaningless for score & is why leaderboards list if ZAP was used / you'll see certain game 1CCs saying 'ZAP prohibited' etc

So now you know

purposefully failing a task so you can repeat areas, usually with the intention of earning score, such as repeating loops of Ghouls & Ghosts by not having the Psycho Cannon when you reach the final boss

In Druaga, not having all items at the end of floor 59 gets you the message 'YOU ZAPPED TO ...'

A few years ago a famous streamer was playing Resident Evil 2 & talked at length about how Japan used the term ZAP to describe switching between 2 characters in different areas. This was, to be polite, utter drivel

The term originates from The Tower of Druaga & is used to describe....

repeating areas you've already done, hence why you'll see games like Ghouls n Ghosts 1CCs listed as 'No ZAP'

It's dumb & by the sounds of it the same as the arcade ver which tbf, everyone on earth (Japan) already knew about

As an aside, the arcade game says 'you were zapped' when you're sent back & created the zap term, meaning to fail on purpose (or by mistake) in order to earn further scores...

re: why Snapper as a name, I'd assume as Pac's fast eating motion is like a crocodile or similar's snapping jaws?

Zek / Mr Dotman's 1st book but I don't think it had any further details. Most Jp people never knew about it at all, or that Pac's basically a Tomy character.

Asking Zek's probably your best bet but I doubt he'd know as it seems to be a US side thing that never went far

not afaik. Probably just because Puckman was a non-starter for Western markets so everywhere got unified as Pac-Man instead? Made no real difference to Japan & the was a brand of ride-on lawnmowers in the US called Snapper that had been around since the '50's

pretty sure the flyer was just for a trade show as of course Snapper never came out with that name but there was a bunch of computer game bootlegs of Pacman called Snapper, so some people back then probably saw it but I don't think it's ever been common knowledge about the name swap?

they still own most of SNK. tbh, I have very little interest in the AES as I grew up with the MVS games & already own or have access to everything I want but I'd def prefer if this thing wasn't tainted with literal blood for the people who do want one

Pac's def the better name but no-one seems to mention Snapper these days, just 'Puck became Pac cos rude words', so maybe some people don't know of his original overseas name?

I even skip some extra scoring so in line with the game, other people can feel the satisfaction of 'You figured it out' by finding it themselves

A month or so after this was shared, hamami set a new record on real hardware in a Jp arcade to set the new best score & JHA record with 2,389,800
