Get a load of this.
I know people who can't connect with their awful parents. I understand that is real.
I wondered what that rustling noise was
Eg do go to your parent's funeral if you can bring yourself to do so. It might prey on your mind for years.
Moonstruck is great. This film is not, imho
FYI my parents were horrible, I loved and feared them in equal measure. My mother is in heaven I think, or certainly at rest. My father continues to rage hither and yon
I realise you might not like your parents... that happens. But if you do, please take the hint here. Don't regret it later. Ignore this if your parents are horrible
Guy turns up late to his best friend from school's funeral.
He asks his friend's sister if he could say a word.
She says 'that would be great'
He steps up says prolifically and walks away.
The sister says, 'thank you, that means a lot'.
The Onion wants to make us submissive slaves to the New world order.
Correct.

God it really was awful. I would like to contact him but he has temporarily raised the drawbridge. Fair enough
That was a golden age of TV cartoons

A good friend's mum has just died, not long after his dad. My parents did the same, in reverse order. I'm sure many of you have had this, it comes to us all. In my own case: 10 years ago. I try not to think about how awful that was. But it is, for most people. Such is life. And death
Did you watch Power Puff Girls? My daughter loved that TV show when she was little
I think it began life as a comic
Anyway, chunky black outline
About ten years ago there was a terrific Soutine exhibition at the Courtauld Gallery: portraits of Bell-hops, Waiters, and other Hospitality workers. Only about 18 paintings. A perfect show. Lovely reds, whites and blacks.
That red ground surprised me this time. The red (plus the wings) made me think of heraldry, which I have always liked as art. And then, via flatness?, heraldry made me think of comics!
I LOVE that flatness line! Why? Good question
Check this painting out, it's mental
Gauguin: Vision after the Sermon (Jacob Wrestling with the Angel)
This is the one. I didn't mean linear perspective... temporal perspective! These 19th century people are SEEING something from the book of Genesis!!!! And look at all that red. It's almost the territory of Soutine, who my dad and I both adored.
What I like about Gauguin is his attitude to eg perspective, which my dad always said was the shittest artistic invention ever. Let me see if I can find a good example
My dad was very blunt but actually I think he's right in this case. I await the police.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!
I feel seen

Mind you: my mum and dad liked Michael Foot... which shows how out of touch they were with public opinion.
I met Michael Foot on two occasions: once, when he spoke in Bromley about H G Wells to a very poor quality audience. And once when he emerged very drunkenly from The Gay Hussar. A great man.
cover of La Vida Sexual de Napoleón Bonaparte, cartoony picture of N. and presumably Josephine

When Labour invented their red rose symbol.. my dad said "Whose fucking idea was THAT?"
Answer: Peter Mandelson. 1980-something.
Mad fact... 42% of Labour Prime Ministers have had to fire Peter Mandelson.
