That's sorta what I have been going through with LLM products/models. Initially very impressed with them and sometimes end up in the "this is something special" until it either collapses to becoming another tool with very clear limits/ways of working with it or discarded.

The people in the spaces around that are usually very aware that it's not that good and a subsection of them get really annoyed at the patterns that come up a lot. But also many of them are looking to replace escapist fantasy or erp, the prose quality isn't the main appeal.

llm chatbots and creative writing stuff is fun as entertainment but yeah they're absolutely not that good at it. It really doesn't seem to be a priority for the companies with the capital to train larger models either.
