Onze jurist @gorikooms.bsky.social over Trumps 'zorgdeals' met 27 Afrikaanse landen: hulp en medicijnen in ruil voor mineralen en medische data. "Dit is onderhandelen met het mes op de keel."

Today, MSF is going public with something we've been fighting behind closed doors for months: Gilead will not sell us their new HIV drug, lenacapavir.
The sticking point isn't even price, they just refuse to sell.

What an amazing cynical world.
A case of burying the lede.
Midway through, there's a quote: "people estimated that around a quarter of the national budget goes on overseas aid — far higher than the real figure of 0.3% of gross national income."
Why do people in the UK feel that way? That's the question. Everything else follows.

“In a partnership on equal footing, one side cannot decide to reduce a previously agreed contribution by 25% or 50%. A cooperation should be more reliable than a donor–recipient relationship,” says @gorikooms.bsky.social, health-policy researcher at ITM.

Wondering when we're going to "sunset" Ryanair, Exxon Mobil, Amazon and all the rest of them. #WHS2025 #GHreform
Surely one of the more annoying things here at #WHS2025 is the ubiquitous use of the term "innovative financing" by many, when they mean "common sense taxation", even of the prudent kind, at least when considering we live in a world of massive inequality.
“This crisis is an opportunity for reform.”

Er, do they all talk at the same time and answer the question they wanted you to ask rather than the one you actually asked?

Nice metaphor!
This is Lydia Nabirye. A Ugandan, she was a mother and dreamed of becoming a nurse. She also lived with HIV w/support from a U.S.-funded program. The Trump administration eliminated the program in January. Lydia died two months later: forsaken.life/orals/lydia-...

NEW Opinion from @gorikooms.bsky.social et al:
Is global health security worth 0.01% of our gross domestic product?

I think most people have a hard time believing that the USAID/PEPFAR cuts are as bad as they are bc it's impossible to stomach that policymakers would knowingly kill millions. But this is what is happening.
PEPFAR supported antiretroviral therapy for 20.6 million people.

Immunization for all is humanly possible, but often practically impossible for millions of forcibly #displaced people. We need more research&resources: if #Health is a human #right, immunization should not leave anyone behind
