Gilead refuses to sell groundbreaking HIV prevention drug to MSF Blocking humanitarian organizations from accessing a medical breakthrough puts vulnerable people across the world in danger.

Today, MSF is going public with something we've been fighting behind closed doors for months: Gilead will not sell us their new HIV drug, lenacapavir.

The sticking point isn't even price, they just refuse to sell.

A case of burying the lede.

Midway through, there's a quote: "people estimated that around a quarter of the national budget goes on overseas aid — far higher than the real figure of 0.3% of gross national income."

The US and Europe have cut billions in health aid — can anyone fill the gap? It's time to radically reimagine global health, leaders tell World Health Summit in Berlin.

“In a partnership on equal footing, one side cannot decide to reduce a previously agreed contribution by 25% or 50%. A cooperation should be more reliable than a donor–recipient relationship,” says @gorikooms.bsky.social, health-policy researcher at ITM.

Surely one of the more annoying things here at #WHS2025 is the ubiquitous use of the term "innovative financing" by many, when they mean "common sense taxation", even of the prudent kind, at least when considering we live in a world of massive inequality.

This is Lydia Nabirye. A Ugandan, she was a mother and dreamed of becoming a nurse. She also lived with HIV w/support from a U.S.-funded program. The Trump administration eliminated the program in January. Lydia died two months later: forsaken.life/orals/lydia-...

Portraits: A 10-year-old, a house painter and a mom who are running out of HIV pills HIV medications were supposed to be exempt from U.S. aid cuts. In Zambia, for example, those on the ground say otherwise.

I think most people have a hard time believing that the USAID/PEPFAR cuts are as bad as they are bc it's impossible to stomach that policymakers would knowingly kill millions. But this is what is happening.

PEPFAR supported antiretroviral therapy for 20.6 million people.

Immunization for all is humanly possible, but often practically impossible for millions of forcibly #displaced people. We need more research&resources: if #Health is a human #right, immunization should not leave anyone behind
