Exactly. I like what Verrus is doing. Also GridCare, Pearl Street, Tapestry and others on the utility side of the meter. Will be interested to see who can make a good business out of this. Mote is probably bigger on the grid side but harder to get traction. Not much of a mote on the load side.

Basically, everyone in the DC industry is trying to become power industry experts overnight (which is hard) and everyone in the power industry is trying to become DC experts (also hard). This is what’s leading to most of the BS solutions.

I know and it derives from a misunderstanding that a 24/7 load needs commensurate 24/7 generation. In reality, the existing grid can support massive additions with a modest amount of flexibility, whether on site or on the utility side of the meter, plus it will be cheaper and faster.

I wish people would spend more time talking about GETs, reconductoring, etc. Expanding the grid is the only way to meet the power needs of data centers

The overbuild needed for solar plus storage is just too large. And no one is going to hook up a multi billion dollar data center to a machine that doesn’t have a decade plus of operational track record.

99% confident that neither will ever happen at a scale that is even remotely meaningful. Maybe a pilot project at best.

Talk to us about Garret’s glow up! Love is blind is the only show I can get all of my teenagers to watch with us together. Odd little crossover in my life between energy and reality television

If only there were a class of customers desperate for power as quickly as possible without much regard for cost. 🤷

Been running a trade deficit with my local coop grocery store for a decade. Still no plans to become a farmer. Maybe some deficits are good 🤷

this shouldn’t be even remotely controversial. Google’s not wrong that it should apply to all large users, but there’s no question that large scale data centers that will make massive margins on converting electricity to data should pay their own way.

Excited to be over here at bsky. I mostly post all things energy and datacenters (at least I did on that other site), though I'm fond of cooking and outdoor pursuits as well
