this i 100% agree with. spoke to a defense atty once who was like, i am the first professional many of these people ever deal with, and its only after they commit a prosecutable offense
yes, sorry was a casual post. i mean, there are many who are abused who do not do that. and some who do bad things might do it for a reason other than abuse they received. i don't like dealth penalty either, and generally am for restitution. but i think tying to abuse is somewhat reductionist
might be more important even than jesus memes
to be fair, some who were never abused also grow up to be bad adults and kill people
This pattern holds a crucial lesson for America’s current moment. As democratic norms erode and elections become increasingly tilted, anti-corruption movements offer what partisan politics cannot: the moral authority to unite society against a rigged system. When traditional opposition fails, these movements succeed because they transcend party lines, mobilizing citizens around a cause larger than any candidate: the fundamental fairness of the system itself. Research shows that in polarized societies, the most effective opposition doesn’t fight on the traditional left-right battlefield where positions are entrenched. Instead, it creates an entirely new axis of conflict.1 Framing the stakes as clean versus corrupt shifts debate from rigid ideological divisions to a universally resonant moral question: are you on the side of the people or a corrupt elite?
Truth is, Orbán is just the latest in long list of authoritarians to be defeated by anti-corruption politics.
A Democratic landslide is possible if they can credibly take up the anti-corruption mantle. But that can’t happen if voters see them as corrupt and beholden to wealthy donors.
this is sort of interesting, i think there are a number of these sort of things in parallel, trying to figure out the right words that might get us out of here www.businessdeclares.com
Reminds me a bit of @mmasnick.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy 's tech manifesto resonantcomputing.org
Peter Magyar confirmed that Szijjarto, Orbán's FM, has barricaded himself with some of his closest colleagues and is shredding documents related to the sanctions on Russia any other evidence of treason.

Perhaps Magyar's most important promise, and the one that certainly resonates with voters: "never again a country without consequences!"
The crowd chants: "To prison! To prison!" [with the corrupt officials of the outgoing government]
"Orbán’s Hungary has been the model for the global fascist assault on democracy. Maybe it can also serve as a model for its defeat."
Important piece from Jason Stanley for Zeteo on the big story of the day:
At a packed Budapest metro station, crowds of Hungarians are chanting: “Russia, go home.”
It’s our turn now. #Vote

can you/we please just start going nuts on 'rich embeds' in @bsky.app ?
can't we just go all @npmx.dev on bluesky/atmospheric embeds and implement dozens of these in a few weeks?
