We need policies that are:
GREEN: Cut carbon pollution and increase resilience;
ECONOMIC: Rapidly lower costs, break up the oligarchy, invest in public goods, and create good jobs; &
POPULIST: Build working class power against elites driving climate and economic crises.
Last fall, I wrote on our Substack that the elections showed a new form of climate politics on the horizon--a shift from green jobs/carbon-forward policies to affordability agendas with programs that can help bring a green transition. climatecommunityinstitute.substack.com/p/saying-the...
Voters want electeds to take action to address the climate and cost of living crisis TOGETHER. From Seattle to Georgia to NY, last year’s elections proved that tying climate action to economic issues is a winning plan.
The climate crisis is a core driver of the cost of living crisis and instability across the economy:
🏠 Home insurance premiums after disasters
💰 Food prices from extreme weather
📈 Energy prices from fossil fuel reliance
Meanwhile, billionaires get richer and the federal government fails to act.
Energy prices are up and heat waves are coming soon.
We need a new strategy to bring down costs, rebuild the state, and redistribute power, all while taking the climate crisis seriously as an economic disrupter.
@cplusc.bsky.social is launching a new framework for how to get there! ✊🛠️🌎
In 2024, we convened a group of 25 workers and organizers across the transportation supply chain. They traveled over 3 days and 600+ miles across Nevada to tour the frontlines of new lithium mining in the US. Watch our new documentary that follows their journey. climateandcommunity.org/nvfilm
Just out here tryna make the grid a better place for all... by taking down the electrical cabal 🤷♀️💡

Who wants to see a new Federal Offshore Wind Authority? 👀 We gotta lay the ground for the demand now. Check out this awesome interview about a report i was lucky to work on with @jbozuwa.bsky.social, @saraheknuth.bsky.social, and @bridgetmoynihan.bsky.social
A pleasure to talk with @jael.bsky.social this week about our new report on a federal offshore wind authority.
Look at our new work on what laying the blueprint for what a public offshore wind governance option looks like!!! @sevier.io @jbozuwa.bsky.social
♥️♥️
♥️♥️♥️ wouldn’t have been possible without you!
So excited for this report to come out. We are going to need a massive reboot of the offshore industry if/when this country wants to tackle the climate crisis in the future. And it’s going to have to be led by the public sector.
novel idea to deal with a crisis!
Thanks @jael.bsky.social !
Excited to launch my latest paper on a federal offshore wind authority.
Trump is decimating OSW. But it is a *critical* decarb industry employing hundreds of union workers.
When we have our next chance for federal action, we have to be ready to supercharge OSW buildout. Here's our plan:
DC folks, come thru tonight and hang out with Sandeep @katearonoff.bsky.social and @advaitarun.bsky.social to talk about Sandeep’s new book and discuss how we can learn from the past to fight for every justice now.

🎯Those of us who regularly talk to people about ending oil, gas and coal know this. But there’s also polling!
Yet the elite Dem world has a bizarre aversion to bashing oil companies.
They should become economic populists - and deliver.
Polarize, energize, win… and go get that Green New Deal!👇
Awesome to have worked on this with great folks!
Reflecting on the projects I've worked on this year - we tend to underestimate support for climate policy, whether it's RE or fossil fuel phase out. Correcting misperceptions might kick us into action
Major shoutout to @markpaulecon.bsky.social @gruberte.bsky.social @holcaggiano.bsky.social for this really great analysis!

We can't continue down this "all of the above" energy policy road. It caters to corporations and to elites, not people and planet.
In this moment of reassessing our strategies, this shows that we can walk and chew gum at the same time-- build up renewables while directly taking on fossil fuels.
New polling out today -- voters SUPPORT phasing out fossil fuels. The last election cycle, both Harris and Trump said "drill baby, drill" but it turns out that this doesn't track with popular opinion.

thanks John!
I've created a starter pack for Public Ownership of Energy. It's a short list of people right now as this is a topic many dismiss outright so there aren't many of us. Others who have done work aren't on Bluesky yet. I'll also be pulling together all relevant work on this topic into one place.
We've found consistent support among U.S. voters for public ownership @dataforprogress.org. A 🧵 of a few charts for your feed.
67% of voters agree that new infrastructure projects should be mostly publicly owned moving forward.

Hey Bluesky, I am excited by all the energy coalescing on this platform. It seems like a place for strategic thinking, which we badly need.
A few initial thoughts:

I’m going to be in DC in December to celebrate Sandeep Vaheesan’s new amazing book Democracy in Power.
Come by Tues, Dec 17 for our panel to talk energy justice in the age of a new Trump Admin.
And tell me if you’ll be in DC so we can get coffee!
