Not the main point, but Trump standing on the platform so he looks taller than the other men.

True of TV for sure. Not movies, though. Plenty of quality, grownup popular films in the '70s, '80s and '90s. Not so much today.

A #BlueskyLullaby for tonight: The late Queen Elizabeth II—born 100 years ago today—famously loved WWII-era songs by Vera Lynn. See you around.

Saw the word “quagmire” in reference to Iran and somehow this popped into my head from some dim receptacle of early childhood. Sort of proto-rock & roll from before Rocket 88. Q-U-A-G-M-I-R-E quagmire.

That's "bad at war, SIR."

For that matter, FDR himself, though it’s probably more of an avuncular chuckle

In keeping with its iconoclasm, Bluesky has apparently banned images.

It's gone iconoclastic

Ugh. I mercifully kinda forgot his existence. Hoping to return to that blessed state.

Decision Desk HQ projects the VA Congressional Redistricting Referendum will Pass.

While No currently has the lead, based on the location and size of the remaining vote, Yes will take the lead as soon as the remaining counties report.

It's not "revenge," either. It's fighting fire with fire, or refusing to unilaterally disarm, when the stakes are real and critical (yes, too many metaphors there).

Check out the NYT polling aggregate, closer than many, which until today showed him consistently 15-16 points underwater for weeks. Suddenly he's 20 points beneath the waves.

This is sudden. In the NYT aggregate (closer than some others), Trump had been 15-16 points underwater for weeks, with approval consistently bumping around 40% or briefly 39%.

Abruptly now he's 20 points beneath the waves.

I haven't watched it in decades but I still have fond memories of Arnie Becker in particular. I've been pleased to see Corbin Bernson still active in Your Friends & Neighbors.

My second general-election vote was to retain him as the much lesser evil against Reagan. I don't regret that one bit, either.

You've reminded me of why my first votes for president were Mo Udall in the Michigan Dem primary and Gene McCarthy in the general. I'd forgotten the "ethnic purity" thing.

I had dark circles in my 20s, and that was before even window screens. Social media was smearing replies in mud on the walls of people’s wattle huts.

I read his thread and feel dumber for it. Jfc, even aside from the absurd lies, does he actually think left economic populism wins elections in red or purple areas of the U.S.? Track record says no. It’s the eternal fantasy of the wrecker lefties.

My personal pet peeve about historical memory of that era is the ageists who insist all boomers enjoyed a thriving, trouble-free economy, unlike them. As one who entered adulthood and the job market during a literal *decade-long* trough of both high unemployment and high inflation, I beg to differ.
