It's turtles all the way down.

This is horrific. For the neighborhood. For the workers who have to try to put this out. For the planet. For the people who have probably tried for years to get maintenance done and been deferred by the bosses. We must have a managed, publicly controlled shutdown. We can't afford to wait.

The actual article is from 2020, Jacobin prints stuff life this occasionally but still emphasizes "eco" thinkers like Huber & Leigh Whatshisfuck. Their ecopolitics caused me to cancel my jacobin sub years ago and still haven't seen enough to reverse course.

Top public worries in the U.S. About three in ten Americans say they are “very worried” about global warming.

More Americans are very worried about climate change than are about crime.

After Charlie Kirk's death, teachers and professors nationwide fired or disciplined over social media posts At least a dozen faculty and staff have faced fallout over insensitive comments online.

I am having a hard time reconciling "Charlie Kirk was a fierce advocate of open dialogue and free expression" with "we must identify and persecute everyone who is insufficiently mournful"

This is simply untenable. There is no way forward with media and political classes captured by the right. Every time someone commits a crime you have to pray it's not an undesirable or it's purge time, then when it turns out to be themselves again they just shrug and wait for the next one.

Just thinking about how the right made up an entirely fictional left wing character that resulted in so many bomb threats and the like and nobody will face consequences. But people on the left who accurately clocked the victim’s life work lost jobs.

“awful people don’t deserve to be killed, but they don’t deserve to be praised, either” is apparently a thought too complex for the pundit mind

If the shooter had killed a leftist podcaster, he would have a multi million dollar Go Fund Me to cover his legal fees tomorrow, and an interview lined up with Charlie Kirk.

Last-minute California budget includes sweeping environmental law rollbacks Major changes include an exemption for high-tech industrial plants and other projects. The move, fast-tracked under pressure from Gov. Gavin Newsom, sparked fierce pushback from environmental, communi...

Can an Abundance bro please explain to me how permitting exemptions for the semiconductor industry, which has left solvents in the drinking water of tens of thousands of Californians - is going to accelerate housing construction?

To be clear: Most of California's most toxic sites and most dangerous industries were seen as "high-tech" when they polluted. Aerospace, computing, nuclear - even oil and gas! "Advanced" does not and has never meant "clean"!

The UK has a lot to learn from speedy Singapore Rather than emulate the city state wholesale, policymakers should select from its tool kit

funny how the lesson we can learn is always 'low regulation' and never 80% of residents live in subsidized public housing

the idea of fingerwagging your way into protest discipline is deeply delusional for a number of reasons, chief among which is that the cops' decisions are among the biggest determinants of how protests ago. it's like being perplexed at people for using umbrellas while ignoring the weather

free mass public transit should be a climate policy supported by anyone who claims to care about the problem

reduce miles driven by those most in need and you reduce emissions while also reducing income inequality

Chartbook 386: How China's powerslide is driving the global green electricity transition. What will the energy transition look like and who will make it happen?

Fact 1 "The spectacular acceleration in global renewable investment is, in fact, a story about one country: China."

Fact 2. "The renewable share of new capacity additions in electricity generation worldwide is 90%"
adamtooze.substack.com/p/chartbook-...

Why are these two facts not known broadly?
