Sorry to keep talking about this but another thing the “62 million men” thing reinforces is the idea that looking at porn instantly turns average men into rapists, which is something a lot of the gender essentialist fatalists believe. It’s all social conservatism dressed up in woke clothing

There's a grape academy
Side note: people really need to stop it with the algospeak. I cannot take you seriously if you refer to rape as "grape" in some quest to avoid something something "the algorithm."
I really believe the article was written and edited intentionally to give these impressions, especially coupled with its visual presentation. CNN is very interested in having people be scared all the time!
And not to be too cynical — because I don't think this is necessarily intentional — but it's worth asking what the people who want their audience to believe the problem is insurmountable are selling
i think it's just my algorithms since i interact w feminist content and this stuff often cloaks itself in that philosophy, but the fatalistic gender essentialism being fed to young women on social media rn is SO bleak
First saw this story over on Threads, and people really, really, really did not like anyone correcting misinformation about their misreading of the story. We seem to be moving to some sort of post-reality where people just want fake stories that reinforce their beliefs.
Why does Instagram not have a blackletter font for my stories I’m posting about dungeons and dragons
Maybe if the USA ever fixes its water situation they will also stop measuring it in “acre-feet” a totally nonsense unit
Men in these groups operate shielded by the anonymity of the internet. But they also find a sense of community and perverse camaraderie, as they normalize abuse. For months, Piotr spoke openly with us and even shared what he said was his address.
how does this follow. how the fuck does this follow. did you read what you wrote. His actual legal name is Piotr and he TOLD YOU HIS ADDRESS and you went to VISIT HIM
and yet this post is still like a relief in the torrent because it tries to actually think through a little of whats actually going on in way that the main reportage and people retelling it on insta are completely uninterested in
And the sketchy site is actually growing mostly because it’s competition has been booted from 23 states by online id verification laws
I took a while to read this story and I’m shocked by how little there is to this ‘investigation’. Nora is absolutely right, CNN using the horror of sexual assault this way is vile. Among the evidence for this type of assault being on the rise, is a *2%* increase over 10 yrs (in England & Wales). 2%.
Really frustrating to see this story blowing up on instagram specifically for this reason imo. Burning all my friends out with reactive anger is not helping to end patriarchal violence!
a LOT of people immediately translated the 62 million site visits in a month to 62 million individual men while also buying that cnn "uncovered" it. please use your brain on a number before you assume that someone with a profit motive for making you scared is contextualizing it well
this is just a bunch of survivor stories being used in combination with some websites and telegram shit. cnn is expected pelting you with horrifying trauma will cover for the fact that they don't really connect any dots. moral panic shit www.cnn.com/interactive/...
I watched the cook the thief his wife and her lover last night, pure CINEMA
Many men just want to get away with rape, of course, or see others do so. But for other men who consume "sleep" porn passively, think it's also about getting women's shaming gaze off men's faces katemanne.substack.com/p/why-men-ar...
Maybe the increase in visits to sketchier legally questionable porn sites are related to 23 us states with porn bans and id surveillance
I don’t love to see a moral panic on social media idk
Basically, yes
All of those empty spaces are choices that landlords are making
A podcast ad that uses “backslash” to refer to a forward slash in a url is an early favourite to be the most enraging thing I experience today
Of course our commercial real estate market is simply busted. It’s borderline impossible for arts orgs like the one I work for to find spaces based on current funding models and it’s equally impossible for people to take that risk to open a physical shop
There are a lot of lifestyle changes people need to learn too. But it is really really hard to find modest and affordable commercial spaces despite how many huge rooms are empty
Fascinated by the bit about a choice between a single ground-level commercial space vs three residential units based on perceived demand. What our city lacks are small commercial spaces for new businesses that thrive for walk-ups, big spaces are the ones that sit empty. I want tiny greengrocers!
When you are reading a pop humanities book and the assertions are insufficiently specific and poorly cited
This is what they say on the news every time another guy vibecodes another barely functional OpenAI api wrapper that lets you chat with Mother Teresa or whatever
Lmao coachella left the interstitial music playing over slayyyters prerecorded set on the stream and haven’t noticed several songs in
