Thankfully, we are all starting to talk to each other, which is somewhat restoring and validating our existence in these spaces

I’m finding that ND identity can’t be separated from professional identity. However, they don’t always align and entrenched normative ideas often silence our ways of knowing and being through exclusion and silencing. It means we lose (?or never achieve) a sense of belonging.

I’ve not heard of this before. I’m exploring professional identity of the neurodivergent speech and language therapist - in the thick of data analysis at the moment. How does ‘identity load’ layout for you?

It’s interesting how things change in such a short time. I’m now using Diffractive Ethnography- leaning heavily into Agential Realism, post-qual/ feminist new materialism /post humanism. The non-linear “structure” works really well with autistic / neurodivergent ways of thinking - this is conceptual

Autistic people deserve respect, support, and celebration. We urge our colleagues to reject fear-based narratives and join us in affirming the value and humanity of every neurodivergent person.

Our profession must stand firmly against misinformation and stigma. We must advocate for neurodiversity-affirming practice and challenge narratives that pathologise difference.

As neurodivergent professionals, we feel directly oppressed and endangered by this vilification.

We call on the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and all speech and language therapists to speak out. Silence is not neutrality—it is complicity.

We are deeply concerned by the resurgence of eugenic ideologies in political discourse. The suggestion that autism should be feared or prevented echoes historical attempts to erase neurodivergent lives.

This rhetoric is a form of discrimination that threatens the safety, dignity, and rights of neurodivergent individuals and their families.

Autism is not a tragedy, a disaster, or a burden to society. Framing it as such perpetuates ableist narratives that dehumanise autistic people and reinforce public blaming and shaming.

Statement from the Neurodivergent SLT Network UK

We, the Neurodivergent SLT Network UK, strongly condemn President Trump’s recent claims that paracetamol causes autism. These statements are not only scientifically baseless—they are profoundly harmful.

I keep listening to myself in my first postgraduate researcher Vlog !!! This statement might sound a bit vain… but speaking from the child with special needs who couldn’t read independently till age 11 or talk to anyone without crying for years… it makes me feel pretty good to see my confidence ♥️

Don't be fooled by the title! Agential Realism uncovers the stories we don't usually hear... the ones that disrupt what we (don't) know about good quality research. If you like 'outside-the-box' thinking, then this might just blow everything you thought you knew about research.

I have been accepted to present my research at this year's RCSLT conference.

My research explores the professional identity concepts of neurodivergent SLTs using Agential Realism Diffractive Methodologies.

PG Life: Trying to make a “Noddy” version to explain ‘Diffractive Methodologies’ (epic FAIL!)
PG Life: Trying to make a “Noddy” version to explain ‘Diffractive Methodologies’ (epic FAIL!) YouTube video by Jodee Simpson

I’ve made this video for my research study supervisor after they requested a “noddy” version of a very upside down research methodology that I’m using. I’m not sure though I’ve achieved this 🤣 let me know what you’re thinking in the comments below ⤵️ youtu.be/zYst-AfubkM?... #diffractivemethodology

Learning from the experiences of disabled SLTs: part 1 of 2 Podcast Episode · RCSLT - Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists · 23/07/2025 · 27m

I recorded a podcast at RCSLT to give a response to their report on the experiences of disabled SLTs.

The headline…? … “there is ableism and discrimination in the SLT profession”!!!

No mincing of words in this report. No watering it down. It’s sobering.
