That's really quite funny.
That's really quite sad.

I wouldn't mind if they just turned the recommendations off. They rarely work or even entice.
if you've lost a friend, in any way, Amusement Park Arcana is for you
and gosh darn autocorrect for replacing the correct word with a homonym.
Gahhhh!
but there is politics underneath every discussion or vote on who to include, who to exclude, and who even gets to be considered.
I remember visiting my mom as a kid at NIH. I discovered that the scientist next door to her had one a Nobel Prize. I was really excited. Mom practically rolled her eyes and told me it's all politics.
I keep that in mind when it comes to every award. I think those recognized are usually deserving
If you have good news share it. And reshare it. And yes sometimes again. That lovely photo you took? Reboost it. Are you up for an award? Be loud and proud.
Social media like Threads, like Instagram, like Bluesky, are rivers. it's easy for people to miss your joy and goodness.
Congrats! Well deserved!
(and thanks for shining your light on works otherwise too often unseen.)

(Does anyone remember A Halo of Mushrooms?)
Paul. You are great. No qualifications. I know so many authors, including me, who deeply appreciate and respect you.
You have had an amazing year! So excited for you and the doors I hope this and all your other wins open.
Which emphasizes why EVERY writer (especially me) requires a good editor.

One day, when people comb through the backlog to binge your podcast this will be a glad entry.
... and yes, some of them were great because of how cheesy, campy, and poorly done they were :)
We lived in a golden age of Saturday morning cartoons. The world needs more Saturday morning cartoons.
Ah... that's an easier challenge. In the history of publication, I bet we could all find 20 books throughout time that we might have missed out on. Now, if we include unpublished amazing manuscripts it gets even easier ;)
Treat yourself. This is such a lovely book. I got the chance to read an early copy. If you like food, if you like cozy, and gentle mysteries... give it a shot.
Okay, that's wild. I am not sure I could pull off the feat of naming 20 SFF books you should read that you haven't. Well, maybe if I pull from really obscure small pubs and indies.
That's not to say there aren't 20 books we all have missed out on that we'd love because there are! But still..
Thank you for the reassurance and for being an ethical editor.

Just remember, whatever stats ALA drops, the reality is even worse. A not insignificant number of schools don't report to ALA, and ALA doesn't have the staff in OIF to go out and track down this information. This looks bad, but it's likely worse.

Don't forget to hassle your reps to vote against HR 7661, the National Book Ban Bill.

Yayy! I hope it is a productive, healthy, and prosperous partnership!
Happy for both of you!
A reminder: don’t wait to hear back before sending another submission. I’m trying to respond as quickly as I can, but Kaleidotrope is only open to fiction and poetry from now through April 25.
