I have always been a lover of cemeteries and try to visit historical ones whenever I travel to new places. One of my sisters lives near the Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, so I've explored it many times and even went to a concert of Bernstein music there. Go visit if you're in NYC!!

the actual story of what happened at the National Endowment for the Humanities last year is even more infuriating than we thought
Sounded great!!!
To understand what's going down at WaPo, this information is essential. The tech bros brought Trump to power, and the are exploiting their hold on the administration to accumulate wealth in an obscene fashion. The last thing they want is a newspaper running exposés that mess things up.
Completely shocked by the sudden loss of Catherine O’Hara, one of the funniest and most talented people on this planet.
As a massive fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas, I couldn't think of a better send off than her performance of Sally's Song.
Every social theory undergirding Trumpism has been broken on the steel of Minnesotan resolve. The multiracial community in Minneapolis was supposed to shatter. It did not. It held until Bovino was forced out of the Twin Cities with his long coat between his legs. The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive—because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about “Western civilization,” while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.
Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
"So much of the power of major labels is rooted in their ability to protect this idea that musical genius is this rare and scarce thing that only they have ownership over."

Incredible to see this rare footage, close-up, of the legendary David Tudor performing live at STEIM in Amsterdam in 1994.

A small white ceramic bowl holds a golden, seared bite topped with pale green sauce and two red berries; an iridescent spoon rests across the rim, its handle adorned with a cluster of black caviar, on a wooden table.

A bright, industrial-style rehearsal room labeled “Creative Music Studio.” A maroon banner with gold lettering hangs high on the back wall above a dense arrangement of framed jazz posters, concert bills, and illustrated musician portraits. The space has white brick walls, exposed beams, and large factory-style windows on the right letting in daylight. In the center, two green mid-century chairs sit on layered rugs facing a single microphone stand, suggesting an intimate performance or talk. To the right are stacked folding chairs, a Yamaha speaker on a blue stand, and a cluster of percussion instruments including congas and drums. To the left are music stands and additional framed artwork. String lights run along the wall, adding a warm, informal atmosphere to the otherwise clean, gallery-like studio.
Excited to be playing in Kingston for the release of the "A Year of Deep Listening" at Creative Music Studio.
I loved that book! Especially the male syrup chapter
I'd appreciate if any audio tech folks could help circulate this exciting call for a fully-funded PhD position working in multichannel audio design for galleries.
It's part of an ARC funded project 'From Noise to Signal: Improving Sonic Experiences in the Gallery'
