To the trans, gender non-conforming, and non-binary folks who live, work, learn, and play here - I see you and I will continue to fight for your right to show up as your full selves and have access to the resources you need to do so. Each of you deserve a lifetime of joy, safety, and peace.

Today, March 31, is Transgender Day of Visibility in Hennepin County (and across the country).
Trans rights are human rights!

This week the County Board took a number of actions to support residents in the aftermath of Operation Metro Surge, including waiving late fees for business licenses through the end of 2026 and offering one-time abatement of property tax penalties based upon specific hardship.
Thank you to Councilmembers Wonsley, Osman, Stevenson, Chavez and Chowdhury for bringing this action forward.

This is why I am so glad we were able to partner with the City of Minneapolis, who last week designated $1M in additional funding for the county's already existing Rental Assistance Fund. This far-reaching fund is available to almost anyone in need.
As Operation Metro Surge enters its second month, residents across Hennepin County continue to face difficult decisions about how to keep themselves and their families safe. For many, this means staying home from work, which in turn has threatened their financial stability.
Hennepin County is working hard to make county spaces as safe as possible, and then not to over-promise, given the parameters within which we have to work. I am available for any further conversation about this - should any of you wish it, please reach out here or to my office.
I continue in my attempts to impress on the Sheriff just how much her decisions are compromising the reputation of and any trust the public has in the Sheriff’s Office, as well as the entire county operation.
Yesterday morning, in the lobby of the Hennepin County Government Center, two members of our community were arrested by ICE agents as HSCO deputies looked on. These kidnappings are horrible and cannot continue on our watch.
Hennepin County's Office of Multicultural Services can help connect anyone to county and community resources in their preferred language.

I am sorry this happened to you. So much egregious stuff going down. I will pass this along to Sheriff. In meantime, pls contact Sheriff & Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office via another channel, as it appears they aren’t on Bluesky, and it is way more powerful that they hear from you than from me.

The ongoing surge of ICE enforcement is causing upheaval in our county. Hennepin County is steadfast in our commitment to serving as the regional safetynet, to meeting county residents where they are at, and to building a region where everyone can thrive.

MPD Chief O'Hara is working to secure the scene.
I will share more as more is known, but no matter what we learn, this is a tragedy.
Information is still emerging about the federal agent killing of a civilian at 26th and Nicollet.
My heart goes out to their family, friends, and loved ones, and to all of us. Whatever we learn, this has happened because we are under federal occupation.
I join leaders in the region in calling for ICE to leave Minneapolis.
While I, and leadership at the county, continue to do our best to support communities targeted by ICE, agents coming into Minneapolis have proven that escalation, chaos, and lethal violence are tools at their disposal and I urge everyone to stay vigilant and safe.
Today’s killing of Minneapolis resident Renee Nicole Good is a tragedy. To her family, friends, neighbors, and loved ones I share my deepest condolences.
This was also a stomach-turning act of violence against a legal observer by federal agents.
Highlights include:
- Application for Hennepin County community advisory boards
- An update on the county's single-room occupancy strategy
- HC’s new Student Art Contest
- A refresher on your rights in the midst of increased ICE activity
And more!
As we speed towards the holidays, I'm wishing you all the best of what the season has to offer. There's plenty going on around the county. Read on to learn more: content.govdelivery.com/bulletins/gd...
And remember – you have rights:
• You have the right to remain silent.
• You do not have to open the door unless ICE presents a warrant signed by a judge.
• You have the right to speak with an attorney before signing anything.
• If you are stopped, you can ask: “Am I free to go?”
If you believe you are witnessing ICE activity, you can call the MONARCA rapid response hotline at 612-441-2881 to report as many details as possible, including what’s happening, how many individuals are involved, what time the incident started, and vehicle ID info.
I want to assure you that Hennepin County is diametrically opposed to the xenophobic, racist, and hateful rhetoric and actions coming from the White House. Somali residents are an important part of our community, and we stand together as neighbors.
