My BIL posted the question on FB ("which side faces the shower?") and we all said "whichever side I'm washing." How else does one get clean?

Since we paid off our mortgage, we have been fairly diligent about setting money aside for home repairs. Neither we nor the house are getting any younger!

It's why I cling to FB, even though Meta is shit. It's where my oldest IRL friends can be found, scattered all over the world.

I taught theatre, public speaking and English at Franklin College for more than a decade. The Pulliam School of Journalism was and is a crown jewel of the college. So proud of this program!

Thanks, friend. I keep remembering my mother telling me that she knew she was old when she started reading her morning paper with the obituaries first.

Thank you. It's much worse for her family, obviously; it was unexpected.

Text that reads,
"If you don't embrace AI, you will be left behind!"
Me being left behind:
Below is a photo of Julie Andrews from The Sound of Music, joyfully twirling in a field of flowers with the Alps behind her.

Hey, it's me. Or as another friend put it, "If you won't get in this garbage truck, I will not drive you to the dump."

Thanks. College friends, so long-standing connections. And some survivor guilt?

That feeling you get when you realize you haven't seen anything for more than a week from a distant friend who usually posts a lot on SM, so you reach out and get a reply that she passed away over the weekend, on another late friend's birthday. Gut punch from the shitty side of aging.

Yeah, that part.

My folks were both raised in California. They were used to less obvious racism. I wish he had lived long enough for me to recommend Eva Rutland's "When We Were Colored." That was the book that really brought home to me the more complicated picture.

Yeah, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Wow.

My parents spent 2 years of grad school in NC (1958-60) and after that, Dad would not even apply for teaching jobs in the South. They became friends w/the couple next door, who were Black; they took turns hosting dinner parties b/c there was no restaurant in town where they could eat together.

I'm so glad the fire didn't spread, but what a pain in the ass! Ours didn't burn, but it did quit working back when our home was covered by the warranty our realtor talked us into. Getting it replaced through the warranty company took WEEKS. With teens & pre-teens in the house. You have my empathy.

We went all the way to Indianapolis to see them w/ Melissa Etheridge on 2024. Then last year they did a bigger tour together and came to NorCal, so we picked the smallest venue and got good seats. They used to come to our local spot without the full band every couple of years. I have my fingers Xed!

Rainy day at the pub, and the food truck has a 4/20 munchies menu.

We have a volunteer buddleia too! Didn't notice it until it was pretty big, so we're just leaving it there.

I usually start with the brand/manufacturer's website, if it's something specific. Basic household stuff is usually the grocery chain that delivers to us. Sometime the hardware store, farm store, or craft store. But I will not pay huge shipping fees just to feel good about telling Bezos to eff off.

Yeah I never read those either. So for me, it's working precisely as well.

When I taught intercultural communication, one of the vectors we looked at was "doing" cultures vs "being" cultures. Students were honestly amazed to consider how strongly our use of language focuses on DOING stuff, being productive, thinking of time as a commodity to be "spent" or "wasted."

I stayed up MUCH too late last night with this book. I wanted to stop and go to sleep, but it was HARD. (And yes, that's what she said.)
