A broken promise and a betrayal of America’s longest wartime allies.
The State Dep’t says it's closing Camp As-Sayliyah today, where ~1,100 Afghan allies have been stranded, with some offered money to return to Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.

Reza is a master tailor who was forced to flee Afghanistan, first as a child and again after the Taliban takeover in 2021.
I'm so proud of @globalrefuge.bsky.social for believing in his talent and providing small business support to this incredible entrepreneur.

The war with Iran is barely a week old, but more than 330,000 people have already been displaced as a result of intensifying hostilities, according to the UN.
Keep in mind that the affected regions already host 24.6 million forcibly displaced people.

My thoughts in @nytimes.com on POTUS’ offer of protection amid the wider dismantling of legal pathways:
“Consistency is key. Protect the Iranian players, absolutely — but also restore functioning humanitarian systems for everyone else facing persecution.”

“ @krishvignarajah.bsky.social of @globalrefuge.bsky.social said that her departure is an ‘opportunity to course-correct.’
‘The past year has been marked by policy whiplash, erosion of humanitarian protections, and mounting instability for immigrants, employers and communities’”

As I shared with @apnews.com, today’s shakeup at DHS should be seen as an opportunity to course-correct on immigration.
That means functioning processing systems, upholding legal commitments, and ensuring enforcement doesn’t undermine civil liberties, as we’ve seen far too often.
America’s competitive advantage has *never* been restricting who can build businesses.
Our superpower is that we welcome into our country those willing to create them.
My op-ed on why a new SBA rule could slow small business growth and job creation.

Horrific and unacceptable.
Nurul Amin Shah Alam came here through legal pathways, fleeing religious persecution and genocide.
Instead of the safety he was promised, he appears to have been abandoned by federal immigration agents -- blind and alone on a freezing cold night.

Americans deserve more than political theater at tonight’s #SOTU. We deserve a workable, lawful approach that strengthens our economy, safeguards our security, and provides clarity & humanity for families navigating our immigration system.

Quite the closing words from the judge too:
Another big win for the rule of law! Federal judge just blocked the end of TPS for Haiti, which was supposed to go into effect tomorrow.
Violence and unrest remains prevalent in Haiti and this decision keeps more than 350k people safe while the case makes its way through the courts.
The support for immigrants at last night’s Grammys reminded us that art has always been a powerful voice for belonging. Immigrants shape our culture, strengthen our communities, and move this country forward — whether on a global stage or in our neighborhoods. Moments like this matter. 💛
NEW: Per a federal court filing today, ICE confirmed to Rep. Joaquin Castro’s staff that there is a MEASLES OUTBREAK at Dilley — the family detention center holding more than 1,000 families, including many infants.
It’s the same place 5yo Liam was being detained.

HUGE news! This is about a Trump admin effort to arrest thousands of screened and vetted refugees in Minnesota and fly them to Texas to be jailed and then interrogated.
After the interrogation is over, people are being dumped on the street and told to find their own way back.
“A government that cannot enforce the law without killing its own citizens, terrorizing lawfully-present families, detaining children, and abandoning constitutional limits has lost sight of its most basic obligations.”

This senseless killing of Alex Pretti is a shocking tragedy that never should have happened.
Alex's death is another unbearable loss in what has become a near-constant stream of violence, pain, & cruelty under the auspices of federal immigration enforcement.

I’m way past appropriations bills in Congress.
I want the Pretti Good Act.
- Real accountability for DHS/ICE/CBP
- No more unmarked federal agents operating with impunity
- No more detaining children
- No more deaths in ICE detention
- JUSTICE FOR RENÉE GOOD AND ALEX PETTI
Operation PARRIS is one of the most heinous things this administration has done yet. Trump’s people ordered ICE to round up 5,600 legally present refugees, people who have done NOTHING wrong, with no warning, and jailed them in Texas to be interrogated about their status.
A video of Alex Pretti reading out the final salute of an unnamed veteran he cared for until the end of his life in the ICU, posted to Facebook by his son.

The enforcement actions are part of Operation PARRIS, “a sweeping initiative reexamining thousands of refugee cases."

"A government that terrorizes refugee families to score a political point is revealing a profound moral collapse, not a commitment to the law."

NEW: @globalrefuge.bsky.social condemns the Trump administration’s arrest & detention of lawfully resettled refugees in Minnesota, upending decades of U.S. policy and inflicting needless harm on families who were invited to rebuild their lives in safety.

A heartbreaking statistic: more people died in ICE detention in 2025 than in the past four years combined.
🚨New details on “Operation PARRIS” are emerging. Groups on the ground estimate that at least 100 people with full refugee status have now been arrested and sent to Texas to be detained for interrogation about their status and possible removal proceedings.

I bear no ill will to these people specifically but intense ill will towards the white nationalists responsible for them coming here through this program.
The administration is once again using the language of security to justify blanket exclusions that punish entire populations, rather than utilizing individualized, evidence-based screening.
